Breaker panel/converter/inverter

When hooking my 7000w Honda generator to my camper to run the slides out and put some stuff away, apparently I wired my power supply cable wrong and a little bit of smoke came out of breaker panel. I immediately unplugged trailer. I do not have battery power to microwave, TV's, or ceiling fan. Checked all breakers and fuses, no luck. Lights, slides and everything seems to work. First brand new camper ever. Did I screw up bad? I haven't checked all the GFCI's yet.

Your microwave, ceiling fan, and (most likely) TVs are powered from 120 vac, not battery. Do you have 120 vac to any outlets in the trailer?

Tripped circuit breakers are not immediately apparent at a glance. The handle does not flip to the OFF side, just moves slightly off of the ON side and will feel “soft” if pressed. You must turn them off and back on to reset.

I would be more concerned about the smoke. If you did have 12v to your microwave, tv (s), and ceiling fan you would REALLY have a problem as they operate on 120v only.

Battery drain

I pulled the batteries out of my brand new rv charged them and had them load tested. All was good, we were able to operate slides and all with no problem. I opened the battery disconnects before leaving and came back 24 hours later and batteries are dead. Any ideas? Help, I’m stumped. This is another problem of course.

As others have said those loads you mentioned run off of 12v rather than 120v. When you replaced the batteries did you turn the disconnect back on? Also which output from your generator did you feed your coach with?

I have 2 Honda 2200 generators in parallel. I’m using the rv shore cord with the dog bone which in turn went into the 30 amp twist lick on the generator. I’m also trying to figure out why my batteries will not stay charged over 24 hours even with both disconnects open. What else could there be to draw from.

What model is your camper? That would help if you added that info to your signature so all would know what unit you have when you ask questions.
Does it have the residential fridge?

The residential fridge WILL draw the batteries down within a day or so if not connected to shore power or a tow vehicle, so I`m told by 2 different dealers. I have NOT tested their claim myself, just what I was told.

It has its own separate disconnect.

Many years ago my husband didn't get the plug in the power pedestal all the way and it came out, arced and there was a small puff of smoke and a slight electrical burn smell.

Unfortunately, it blew out our microwave, 2 TVs and our stereo unit. Our slides and lights worked for about a day then the batteries went low and we lost everything. Apparently by shorting out the shore power line we blew the converter! Simple fix but we had to buy and install a new converter.

Hope yours isn't as bad. Good luck!

What "power supply cable" did you wire up? Your 7:40 comment makes no mention of any special wiring?

Yes it is located in the front cargo area with the batteries...the other disconnect is located in the convenience compartment.

Good question.....maybe they made their own generator power supply cord. I made my own for my TT`s that I had prior to this 5er.

I am keying in on the fact that you said there was some smoke from your converter/power dist unit. If there is no output from the charger that might explain the batteries not holding a charge. When you plugged in the generator were there loads connected? In other words perhaps you drew an arc when plugging in with the loads connected and the gen output on.

7000 originally but I sold it and bought the two 2200 suitcase models because they were easy to handle

also do you think its a good idea to put a disconnect on the ground cable? I've read several threads where people did that to ensure no draw of power when idle
