A couple of years ago we went to the area on an extended family history research trip. We actually accessed Osage from the Austin area. We stayed in a place east of Austin, near I90. It may have been Beaver Trails. Very family orientated, activities, etc. A tad pricy, but, was local to a number of things we wanted to see, including of course, the Spam Museum. Austin proper to Osage is about 35 miles, the campground would add a bit to that.
We also moved down the road a bit to Nashua Iowa and stayed in a park very near the Little Brown Church. Believe it was River Ranch Camping, it was after some major rain/flooding, and the skeeters were rather HORRID, but the people that owned the camp were as nice as could be, it was NOT a fancy dancy campground, minimal services at that time. Quiet tho and reasonable $$ the way I remember it. Nashua to Osage is about 35 miles.
There is also listed a Cedar View Park near Nashua. Have no knowledge of it first hand tho.
Believe Judy Denner is from that area, and could fill you in even more.
Enjoy Osage, and your travels.
