Keys not working in locks

Having issues with keys not working in side compartments. The keys go in but do not turn. Dealer told us to spray locks with WD40. It seemed that we had separate keys for door and compartments when we had your travel trailer. Any suggestions? We have a 2015 Montana 3440RL Legacy.

Did you use the correct keys,as very similar. Door key has a square head, slam locks have a slightly rounded head.

As Mike poined out ... storage compartment keys are keyed differently from entry door keys.

My compartment key turns hard, but it's because of the pressure against the latch. I lean on the door a bit when I turn the key. It may be different with slam latches if that's what you have.

On our unit with slam latches two different color of keys. Black and purple, both keys will go into the keyhole but only work in the correct lock assembly. Been at the dealership for quite a while but I thought the black was for the compartment doors and the purple for the entry door.

when ours do that, it is usually pressure on the locks. I push on the doors and they turn easily

Yup, some doors need to be leaned against to relieve the pressure on the locking tab when trying to rotate the key to the unlock (or lock) position. Just something to try. I have two doors like that. Two other outer cabinet doors that use the same key are fine and easy to rotate. In my 10 years of ownership, I've lived with it.

And yes, the main entry door key for its two locks is different from the exterior door key on my rig.

Those of us with newer rigs have three keys, one for the entry door, one for the compartment slam locks, one for the compartment doors without slam locks.

Are your latches FIC or KENCON? It will tell you on the key. I have KENCON and had a key to split and break inside the lock. They don't turn easily. My unit is a 2015, 3582.

We also have a gold round key and only fits in the control box for leveling.

Might want to show it to your Dealer. He might have given you a Master Key by mistake and they will not open the compartment locks.

You should have three keys. One will fit the entry door and dead bolt. The second will fit the slam latches. The third key fits the Level Up box and also the front compartments (battery and storage). In addition, the slam lock key fits the outdoor entertainment system if your unit has one. Best advice is to check key number and lock number. We bought an electronic lock and it came with the wrong key. So, it does happen.

Three keys?

Glad to read some of these posts! Just purchased a 2016 3790RD and it was at the dealership having warranty work done. The service tech locked the basement doors. When we brought the unit home, we couldn't get into the storage compartments. We were given two keys when we bought the unit. Apparently they forgot to give us the third key. The dealership sent a gal 100 miles to us with a master key so that we could get into the storage areas. Leaving tomorrow for the weekend!

I have trouble turning the cylinders on my slam latch compartment doors also. I spray lock lube in them from time to time. Also I found out if I jiggle the key while turning they seem to cooperate.

Simple Fix, Get the # off the slam latch, call your dealer and have him send you a couple keys! Done!
