Diane and Dennis: We have found that what we need a mobile phone for is when we are traveling from Ontario until we get to our place in Tx. where we also have a land line. We stop at the first Walmart and purchase a cingular/At&t phone that includes $10. of time, billed at $0.25 per min. The time expires in 30 days. We also have a phone card from The phonecardstore.ca that we use for all long distance calls to home. The phone and the $10.00 time costs $18.00 and you can top it up or throw it away and buy another one. We usually get one on the way down and one on the way back. If you are interested in the phone card (we also use it in Tx and don't subscribe to any long distance plans) send me an email and I will tell you which card to get.

We use Bell Mobility "Business North America" 200 minute plan. It is lets us keep in touch with home, and people at home can call us toll free. This is important for us, and we eat the cost.

A locally purchased pay-as-you-go phone is a cheaper way to go, and local people can then call you toll-free.

John: We did it your way until we got a land line in Texas. Now it is cheaper with the phonecard.
