heading west monday

Sitting in Adairsville Georgia and will leave Monday morning for Albuquerque via I75 to I24 at Chattanooga to 840 just past Murfreesboro to I40 well west of Nashville and onward on I40. Will be glad once in new mexico past the bad weather possibilities. So besides dodging tornados, hail, and floods...any advice? First stop looks like Lakeland just before Memphis or West Memphis Arkansas. Somewhat worried about staying at Tom Sawyer in West Memphis if flooding is affecting mississippi river, but don't know if that will be the case. Oklahoma seems to be lacking on nice rv parks...or am I wrong? Thanks, john

Be careful on I-40 thru Memphis. We came thru the 2nd of April and there were a couple of places where it was so rough I fully expected to find all my cabinets detached from the walls!

If you can make it to North Little Rock, AR, there are a couple of nice parks. Downtown Riverside RV Park is right on the river off I-30. The river is up, but I don't believe it made it into the park. We were just thru there today. Burns Park Campground also looks pretty nice and I believe it's only $20/night for 50 amp. I've never stayed at the campground, but have spent many days walking by dog in the park and it's lovely.

Tom Sawyer is a good place to stay outside of Memphis. Haven't heard of any flooding issues with the Mississippi River. Most of the flooding in Arkansas is more Central Arkansas.

Also, try to get To Hot Springs, Arkansas. The springs are a wonderful way to relax on your trip. A good park on your way thru Texas is at Kilgore. It's a PA park. Safe travels. Bring your snow shovel - we're not done with the white stuff in the Rockies.

Top of the hill on the way out of Albuquerque is Enchanted Trails RV park. Great place to stay if you need it while in Albuquerque. Also while in ABQ if you want to go to Santa Fe but not move the rig, take the Rail Runner. The train is cheap and leaves from several convenient spots and if you buy your tickets on line it's even cheaper.

The 840 route from i24 to i40...wonderful!! I40 in memphis...terrible, the only saving grace was the stop and go traffic that meant 2.5 mph through the area. Completion date for new roads there is 2017. Don't even think about staying at memphis east cg in lakeland, tenn. Many speed bumps getting through mobilehome park to what they list as pull throughs in center of this community. Back way out free of bumps and we left instead of staying. Tom Sawyer...sitting here beside the river now watching tugs worh the river...ahhhhh. john
