An expresscard/aircard option for desktop computer

I know some of you have your desktop computer onboard when out in your Montana. Or maybe you want an aircard/expresscard option for internet at home and don't have a laptop. This link shows a piece of hardware to use an aircard/expresscard via a usb port.

Do any of these work with the Verizon PC5740? I see that my card looks different than the one pictured in the ad - wider and flatter.

I have a question. I need an Express Card for my laptop but I want to be able to use the system on my desktop. I talked to EVDO today and they recommended the USB-720. So is that a better way to go or should I get the Express Card and this adapter? And if we are in a park with really good WIFI for say 3 months, can you put the service on hold? I'm also going to need to purchase a WIFI connector for my desktop and all of this is getting expensive.
Happy trails...................

parrothead, think about how often you will need the device in your laptop, versus how often you need it on your desktop.

if the majority of time its in laptop, it probably makes more sense to spend the money to get the expresscard with usb adapter.

if however, you need it mostly on desktop, and only infrequently with the laptop, then it may be a more cost effective compromise to just get the usb720, and accept that when you use it with laptop it will be a bit more inconvenient when compared to a card in its slot.

as for putting the service on hold... both verizon and sprint allow for it, but have different policies and charges.

hope that helps you make a decision!

Sue, I use the USB 720 and am thrilled with it. AS you can see, I am on this forum all the time.

That is a lot cheaper than our router. Since we both are on line at same time we had to have the router but this may have worked just as well.

John,

The only difference is wifi goes through the air to the antenna. If it's a secure site it's still a scrambled signal. I do all my banking online by wifi/aircard and have had no problems.

I put a PCIMCIA adaptor into my desk top been using my 5740 card with it almost two years and no problems. Cost 15.95 just have to find them they plug into an empty slot on your mother board 5 minute install windows will identify it and install automatically.
