I don't get it...but I'm happy

Took out the new trailer this weekend. We used to tow a Forest River Wildwood 25 foot trailer. It was supposed to be about 1500 pounds light than the Mountaineer. You sure wouldn't know it by the way it towed! The Mountaineer towed easier, went up hills faster, and swayed less! Of course, we did upgrade the hitch (Equalizer). What I do not understand is the way a heavier rig went up hills easier and handled and stopped better. I was really concerned before going out, but now all of my worries are dissolved. Wow!!!

We had the same experience. We actually set up a test pitting our old Fleetwood single slide against the Mountaineer double slide. About 6' longer and 1000 lbs. heavier. We had about a 30 mi. course mapped out. Early one Saturday we ran the course with both TT's. The results were the same. The same fuel consumption with variable speed and terrain. The RLBS has a concaved front cap and I was sure it was either a very good design aerodynamically or purhaps a very bad one. I contacted Keystone prior to the test and was told they use a CAD program which included the Aerodynamics. Their program showed that with this design it changed the air flow over the rear and gave added stability at 65 mph. This was the the only explanation that made sense for the concave design. They asked me to send them the data which I did and they said they were going to post them at the factory as they had never actually run a test. They were very happy with the results.

The Dealer was quite happy as well as they knew the deal hinged on the results.

Our combo is remarkably stable. We too are very pleased.

All I know is I like it! A rather unexpected benefit of the new rig! Thanks for your responses.
