Single best RV tip you ever got?

Please list 1 tip, you received from a fellow RVer that helped you, saved your bacon, improved safety, or just made your RV experience better! How's your chance to share. Please only one per reply. If during this process, you can share a second or third if it's not mentioned. Let's make this thread helpful for "newbies. Just last two days I learned not all RVs have lug wrenches. Example Tip : get a torque wrench with proper socket size!

Tip: Mine was learning the Geo-method for maintaining black and gray holding tanks!

Wow, after 45 years of RVing, the one thing to think about is a hide-a-key for the RV. If I see you at the rally I'll tell you about it...

When dumping your tanks be sure to dump a small amount of gray first BEFORE the black in order to test your hose and connection. THEN you can dump the black before the galley and gray.

Don't chew your finger nails after you dump your black tank.

Keep an extra key to the Monte in the truck. We somehow managed to lock the Monte door with the key inside. Fortunately the basement door was unlocked. So into the basement I went, pushed up the laundry chute door, climbed up thru the opening (fortunately I am still slim), and opened the door from inside.

Another time (when we did have the extra key) we managed to lose our key while out sightseeing. Had the spare for when we returned.

Mine was the tires also. Never would have thought the manufacturer would put unsafe tires on a rig this expensive.

Back in '93 a guy told me to weigh it before you buy it. I/the dealership did. We had agreed it needed to weigh what the brochure said.

In the end they/the factory replaced all 3 axles (yes 3) and 7 tires.

Changed my order truck to a DRW from a SRW and not a hint of tire issues.

Make lots of short pull forwards when backing into a site. This reduces strain on tires, etc and makes it a whole lot easier to back into a site. First attempt without doing this: one hour to get monty where I wanted it on the site. John

Tip: Install knife valve at sewer line connection, as extra defense against leaks?

First tip from a Senior RVer on my first trip. When backing up, put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and turn it in the direction you want the back end of the 5er to go. Still do it after 9 years with lots of backing up!

Keep an extra set of truck keys in the RV, and an extra set of RV keys in the truck.
