Walmart campground

Went to my local store to get a tire plugged. There sat a fairly new Montana, slides out, antenna up, Honda generator hooked up at the rear. We have 3 great campgrounds within 3 miles.
What are my fellow MOC'ers opinion.
The generator may be tempting for our Florida panhandle rednecks.

As long as they got the manager's permission, I see no problem, provided they explained the slides. The generator is another issue that is called foolish if it was not secured in any way.

my understanding is to ask the store manager. it will be him/her's decision on having slides out etc….. thought i read somewhere to not put out the slides or anything else for that fact. must be a really nice manager

We do the Wally World camp all the time....we use the Allstays app you can download for your phone to check if a particular Walmart allows overnights but we also call ahead just in case. We almost always go in and purchase something as they are kind enough to allow us to use their lot!

Have never done a Walmart and have no plans to. But as long as they were out of the way and not impeding any traffic flow, no problem I guess. With antenna up and generator out I guess either they were planning on being there a while, or someone just could not stand to be without TV.

We never stay more than an overnight to catch up on rest. We have been at some Walmarts with 20 other rigs. We do not need a generator with our onboard battery storage but have seen folks with them running. If you are staying overnight it is kind of difficult to stay and not put your slides out especially if you are traveling with pets.

Like with anything else in life, if this floats your boat, great, if not then it is not for you!

Shoot we are staying in a parking lot right now in Mesa and are moving to another one in Tuson tomorrow. I would rather stay at Walmart for a night then the KOA down the road... We are lucky that we do not need to run a generator or put our slides out.. It is a little tacky to spend more then one night ,but we leave early in the morning..

The Wall-Marts that allow this are every ware but only for the 24 hour stores, because the stores make money from the rvers pulling in for the night usually they are out at the areas where people do not park or over by the garden or service center. But 2 nights is as I look at it is camping and should be avoided, its nice to know that when you pull in to town on late night you do not have to worry about finding the campground way out on the lonely road, but don't over stay or it will be a privilege that could be taken away. "Wall-mart dose not endorse overnighters but they do not chase them off ether as long as it doesn't interfere with the normal operation of the business or the safety of the public".

We have stayed on a Walmart lot. Only for a overnight stay. Never any longer. The "free" parking at Walmart usually costs me $100 in the store.

2 days is camping, gen out, TV ant up. WRONG.............

Print this letter and give it to the idiot that will end up causing all free parking to go away.

Just shaking my head and wondering why, especially since there are three good campgrounds in the area. I'd rather not gamble on safety for myself, family, Monte and TV by camping in a regular campground and not at a Wally World. Been to many robberies and etc at our Wal-Marts to feel safe to me!

All they needed was a 100# propane tank, Webber 50 inch Grill, couple hammocks and skirting! Sorry folks with or without permission, that guy is the reason, many jurisdictions don't allow big box overnighting. In our County it's prohibited by ordinance. I read an article last year in a "City Planners" website that discusses the issue. It talked about gray water dumping and worse. Our local governments love prohibiting things and people that give them ammunition that helps their cause!

Walmart not only allows overnight parking, but they encourage it by advertising in their own atlas and website. I think they also knew when they started the policy there would be people who abused it. In three years, we have stayed in a Walmart 10-12 times. Some were because of weather, some were just a late night stop-early morning leave and some because there was something in the area we wanted to see. If you don't want to stay at one, I have no problem with that. I just wish that the feelings were reversed.

We've WallyDocked a few times, generally on the side towards the back of the Garden section. We try to park with the Road (Drivers) side towards the curb so we can put the Bedroom and Kitchen slide out over the grass area.

Walmart has it figured out. Here we are talking good about Walmart. This is the best advertisement they will ever get and it all free. People could still use a little common sense and good manners. I guess that would be asking too much.

The worst part about Wall Mart camping is the sound of the Big Rigs running all night long.
