Weighed in today-- Storage weight of camper and truck

Okay I went and hit the scales today

Storage weight = Truck camper and I. No food, water, clothes, DW or dogs.
Does have everything else we take camping.
Note: I do not have a washer or dryer or a generator.
Just one battery.
So pretty basic set up.
about 30 gallons of diesel

Advertised pin weight of 379RD is 2560 lbs Weight of camper 12005 lbs
Truck rated for 11500

Weight of truck and camper hitched
Steer axle 4980
drive axle 6420
Trailer axle 9940
Gross 21340

Truck weight with camper hooked up is 11400 lbs
DW and dogs are more than 100 lbs

Truck no camper
front axle 4980
drive axle 3540
Gross 8520

So pin weight is 2880

So with hitch and stuff we have loaded we have added 320 lbs to the pin we have loaded 320 lbs to the pin weight.

loaded weight of camper is 12820. it is rated for 15400

That is the correct way to know what everything weighs. Lot of RV'S and their TV's can be over some of the weight ratings and under on others. Remember the next time you see a small car with four large people in it that it is probably over it's weight rating too. Guessing and reading what is in the brochures is one and the same. How you load your unit can also help with pin weight especially with the models that have more rear storage.

About the only rear storage we have that I can use to lighten the pin weight is to fill the fresh water tank.

Those advertised truck tow ratings are all Barbra Streisand. Just like the advertised 5th wheel pin weights. Both manufacturers give those ratings using the best case situations...like an unloaded truck. That way the buyer will think he doesn't need a bigger truck and his RV is lighter than the actual pin weight will be.
