Fasteners for Hooks

We have a new 3400 and want to put up some extra coat and towel hooks. What types of fasteners should I use. I am used to dealing with sheetrock but don't know if these walls need something special. Also, how can I be sure I am not drilling into a wire or something I shouldn't. Thanks

You don't have to put holes in the wall. Go to Wally-World and look at the hooks they have. I think they are 3M. They stick to the wall and when you want to remove the hook or put it in another place, you pull a tab and it leaves no residue on the wall.

Nick, We have the 3400 also and we put two double screw in coat hooks on the wall between the TV and dresser in bedroom for wifes clothes and put two "Over the door" type hooks over the shower for coats and robes, one on each side. The one near the wardrobe has to be removed when we travel, we just lay it on the bed.

Hope this helps.......

We also put two bronze double hooks between the TV and the dresser. Put another one in the wardrobe next to the shower(mounted it on the reinforced piece that the rod is attached to)for belts etc. Also put one next to the door going outside between the door and the dinette for jackets. All of the hooks are bronze with double hooks and attach with two screws. We found the screws included worked fine on outside walls(no need for special anchors) and they match all of the other bronze fixtures in our Montana. We bought the hooks at Home Depot for $2.99 each. Hope this helps.

We use what WayneM described. They are 3M Command Adhesive hooks and come in many sizes and configurations. We also use the strips to hang framed pictures of the grandkids. We've traveled many, many miles with no problems with the hooks or pictures.

We put nice hooks mounted on a nicely finished oak board (purchased complete) between dresser and TV. They've been there for almost two years (in August) and still don't budge. And we put some rather heavy items on them. I hang my jeans with full pockets there at night, for example. I used drywall anchors. They have worked so well for me I no longer use toggle bolts.

Just drill or punch a small hole, then use a phillips screwdriver to install the anchor. I think it's important to use a small hole, just big enough to start the anchor.

Steve,

We've used those particular anchors in the stike house for quite a few years and wouldn't use anything else for heavy items. They are actually made to screw directly into the drywall (no predrilling required). We use an electric drill/screwdriver and they go in "like butta." Can't think why they wouldn't work in the Monty (even if the drywall is thinner) as long as you aren't trying to do pullups on them or something!
