Rain in Northwest??

Hello MOC members,
We mentioned in another place that we were leaving for Oregon - Columbia River area, southern coast area and for Washington - Ocean Shores area, Olympic Nat'l. Forest area, etc. June 25 and will be in area until July 31. Can anyone share what we can expect in the way of weather during this time of year? What's typical? Can we expect a lot of rain? (This is the reason we're asking!) We have a small concern about how our Big Sky slideouts will do in the rain. Here in sunny (read that HOT) central CA we don't have much rain and we have yet to experience it in our rig. What can we expect in re: to rig? We don't have the awnings or manufactured covers over our slideouts and wonder if we should have them installed before we head out. Any thoughts?

#29 fans, the rain won't be a problem with your slides unless you have a leak. We've been in some very heavy rains in many parts of the country and it's never been a problem. Well, maybe one-- Be sure when the slides are being retracted you are out of range, especially if you have slide toppers. First time I got drenched. Now Vicki knocks on a window to let me know she's bringing the slides in. We have the toppers but you might get a little bit of water coming off the top of the slides even without the toppers.

Much of your trip is the route we want to take one of these years. So we look forward to hearing your reports!

Good advice about the rain--thanks!
We will certainly be willing to share our stories but will have to wait until we return July 31. We have just the one computer (at home) and have not figured out what we want to do in the 5er yet. We are in the market for a laptop and then need to learn how to do all the techy stuff to use it on the road. Just haven't done it yet. Been to busy being on the road in the new rig

You should have a wonderful trip and plan on a little rain. The weather forecast changes daily. Right now we are in a dry stretch with temps in the 80's and on the ocean in the 70's. Plan on some wind also. The Columbia Gorge can be very windy and also on the ocean. Of course it makes it a nice cooling breeze. We have camped at Copalis(north of Ocean Shores) and have experienced everything while there. When it is stormy the waves are even higher and there is lots more to pick up off the beach (like glass floats, etc) Be sure to put in a slicker in case it rains and you are setting up, it also works for a walk on the beach. The Olympic National forest is the wettest part of Washington, but at this time of the year can be very beautiful. We have never let the rain stop us from camping or we would never go....Myrna

Some of the time on the road, the 'techy stuff' means simply taking the laptop and a phone cord to the parks 'central modem hookup' and dialing a local number for our isp. What you need then is a list of locations and numbers for your isp.

Other times it means running a phone cord from the park's pedestal at our site (like this park) to the Montana, then connecting the phone cord inside to the laptop.

When you get into wireless, most parks will loan or rent you a wireless card. It's really pretty simple. They'll have instructions.

Thanks for all the good info!
The "weather reports" we're really appreciated...and thank you IMP for the reminder about the rain gear. We just looked at our yellow slickers and "ducky hats" (what our granddaughter calls our rain hats)and never even thought about needing them on the trip. We will add them to our stack of things we're taking to load in the 5er. And thanks sreigle for the "techy" stuff. We're looking at laptops tomorrow hoping to get one before the trip.
Imp, we are familiar with the Columbia River area and the WIND. One of our worst driving experiences was many years ago on that infamous road. We're hoping things are much improved.

29Fans I live here in Washington and yes it does rain in wa. but today it is 75 and clear sky's. They expect to be this way for awhile but you can't predict mother nature. There is not a cloud in the sky and they say it should be that way the rest of this week. But like I always say, around here, send your dog outside when comes back in if he wet you its you know its raining. Anyway enjoy and have fun while your here. Drive safe Tom n Phyllis

#29fans, I am up in the gorge area now and the weather cannot be better. 80's during the day, 50's during the evening. It should cool off next week to the 70's.
