New Ford Truck questions

Have taken delivery of my 2015 F350SD/CC/long bed/4x4 SRW Platinum. Had it for a day then sent it out to get "pimped" (upgraded alarm & tailgate lock, MOGO tracking, bed liner, B&W hitch, tonneau cover, pork chop toolboxes, LED bed and backup lights, retractable running boards, SS grill guard, console vault, etc., etc.). Trying to put some miles on it so I have at least 1K on it when I tow the first time at the end of May. My last truck (99 F250 SD 7.3) served me well. Whoever buys it will get a great used truck. To say that I am overwhelmed with the features is an understatement. I told my kids yesterday on Mother's Day that I hope I live long enough to understand how to utilize everything this truck will do . My first experience with DEF. Do most of you diesel owners carry some with you all the time? If so, what volume? Does brand make a difference? Also, what is the current opinion on the best way to care for the paint job? This truck will be outside here in South Texas 24/7. Thanks.

I do not carry DEF with me. I check the level indicator every couple of weeks. When it says you are at less than 1/2 full it will take a 2 1/2 gallon container. It will also give you a warning when you have appx 800 miles left till empty. Enjoy your truck. I have a new one ordered with delivery currently scheduled for June 12

I did carry a 2.5 gallon container of DEF when I first got my 2011, but once I found that it didn't use that much I just check it every now an then. As Simpson9508 said the truck will give you a warning when you have appx 800 miles left till empty. Once I see that it is less than 1/2 tank I go out and purchase a 2.5 gallon container and fill it back up. I get my DEF at Walmart.

Like the others I just wait until it shows less than 1/2 full and go get a 2 1/2 gallon jug at Autozone.

I carry the box of DEF. auto-zone has best price where I live. I only use Wofgang products on my Show Cars and the F450. Great products work perfectly with new vehicles and clear coats. My truck get 115 for days on end! Looks new for ever! I also "never use or allow buffers"! It's done by hand.

I carry a 2.5 gallon DEF supply in my toolbox that I get from Walmart. Nu-Finish polish for the paint.

First of all, you have got to post some photos of that truck! I really like my XLT but I am pretty sure I like yours better! Like Fire5er said, when I first got my F350 I carried DEF. Now I just do like most others and wait until it is less than half full and top it off. Walmart has good prices/quality. When towing you will use more DEF. My truck is black/black and is up north in the summer and Florida in the winter....all sun. I use NuFinish twice a year and always concentrate on keeping my chrome wheels clean/polished. Wait until you pull your 3400 for the first time....you won't even know it is back there.

One more thing: sign up for Sync Services online. You can set your destinations for trips, without sitting in front seat of truck plugging in addresses. They are automatically uploaded to truck from your cell phone or computer. We plan our entire trip from comfort and relaxed location. Also note that your Nav system has some great options. Can tell you ahead of time what serviced are available at each off ramp on trips. Read up or watch videos on line. Truck has many features that really help you and they are free! The serviced button on steering wheel gives you real time road conditions, weather etc. explore!

We've gotten to where we wait for the DEF warning to come on before we add one jug. We found that the half empty warning may not be low enough to hold a full 2 1/2 gallons and that you have to get almost to the none left line before it will hold 2 jugs. If you run over it will leave salt like deposits on your truck when it dries. Don't know if they will hurt the finish or not but we don't want to take the chance.

I used to have a box of BLUE DEF with me from Tractor Supply but now that Flying J, Pilot and many others have it at the truck pumps, I usually fill it up once a month by going through the truck lane. DEF is sensitive to heat and can spoil and go stale. My Ford Service Manager recommended not to keep it in the truck hauling it around for a long time in the hot summer heat. It has a shelf life. Pump filling is easiest for me unless our journeys are taking us more rural, I still carry for the safety of having it.

There are several postings on adding pictures and updating your Signature. Take a peek at the category "Forum Information and Help" http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...play.php?f=111 to see some of what is available. Interesting and possibly applicable to you are:

I recently read on RV.net about a tool developed by one of their moderators (1492 if you know him) to really simplify loading a picture. Here are his instructions:

If you're still struggling to post photos in the forums, I've written a minimalistic webpage app that should make it quick & easy. Just drag-n-drop a photo from your desktop/notebook computer, and copy-n-paste the returned image code into your forum post.

Basically, it auto uploads to the free hosting site IMGUR.com. Resizes your photo to the max recommended by the forums. Provides a preview thumbnail, and option to permanently delete the photo from the servers.

Give it a try. It is pretty clever. It provides you with the code needed to display the image. Copy/paste the IMG code into your posting and you are done.

I no longer carry def. If I'm heading out on a long trip and I know I'll need it, I'll carry a jug along to save having to get some on the road.
