Which washer/dryer combo to get.

It seems most Montanas come with the washer dryer prep pkg and the most popular unit is the Spendide.

They have a vented model and one that some how drains the moisture out through the plumbing.

Is the ventless model as efficient and if you go with the vented model , where is the best place to put the vent. Thanks.

When we bought ours we were ready to go with the unvented one because we had talked to several people who had them and loved them. But CW didn't have one in stock so we bought the vented. It depends on your model but you have to cut a hole somewhere on the outside to install the vent. We haven't done that yet. Our vent hose lays in the basement and we open the basement door when running the w/d. It works okay. There is also a device you can buy that you hook up the vent to and it catches all the lint, etc. and just sets on top of the w/d.
Happy trails.......................

ParrotHead , thanks for the post. How did you get your vent hose into the basement of your 5fth wheel. Thanks again.

We got the vented one. The ventless one takes a long time to dry, more electricity, and had another , to us, negative. I can't remember what it was now, but it had something to do with where the moisture/heat went during the drying cycle.

We also have the vented unit. The ventless model takes twice the time to dry. our dealer sent our new Montana over to CW next door and they installed our old Splendid (from a 2003 Montana). They also cut a hole in the wall and installed a nice chrome vent. Works like a champ. Above the washer/dryer, I installed a coat rack so during the winter months we hang our coats there in the closet. It also works great on the rainy days to hang our wet coats in there to dry.

On the early 2005 3400 there is a seat/shelf in the floor of the w/d closet. You have to take that out to install w/d and it leaves an opening to the basement. We will eventully close this up and then run the vent to the side and put the vent cover on that wall. It will be behind the door when the door is opened. We have a white one (cover) so will blend in with the Monty.

Sue, they didn't mark the spot to cut the vent hole? When we got our 02 there was a tag on the wall that said "Cut here for dryer vent". WE did and it worked. Just make sure there isn't a stud where you want to cut. Had that happen once. Had to move the hole half an inch. Glad we started on the inside. Goof was hidden by the washer. We have a hole cutter that will cut the 3 inch. hole we cut through the inside wall and then we use the center hole in the out side to cut the outside hole that way we have smooth cuts inside and out.

That sign says to vent on this wall not necessarily in that spot. Our sign is up to high to use that spot. Ours will work to put it down below the graphics. Someone else here did it in a 3400 and works fine (CRS as to who it was) for the 3400. Since there is a opening to the basement now, we can see the studs so we have the spot picked out. We were parked next to a guy that use to work for CW once and he told Ed how to do it so we think we can. We will let you know. We aren't going anywhere for a while so not in a big hurry to get it done.

I believe that the sign says vent on this wall because there is no studs between the walls. You should be able to drill your vent hole anywhere on that wall without a problem. I would certainly check with a Montana dealer service department first before drilling.

We got the Splendide 2100 from Camping World. It is larger than the 2000S and we love it. CW vented it out the side. We were worried about the door being open when drying but it has never been a problem. It's not hot enought to do any damage.

We have the unvented Splendide Combo. We would have probably purchased a vented model if we had bought it. A guy with a Class A had it and wanted to use the space for a cat's litter box. He offered it free if someone would help with removal. He was at an RV park close to my daughter in Tampa, so, I took him up on his offer.

We have learned to make small loads and the machine does a great job. Put the clothes in and take them out clean and dry in about 2.5 hours. When we finish our showers in the morning we usually put on a load of laundry and then go about our business. The manual syas it only uses about 11-12 gallons of water for cleaning and drying. Using water to condense moisture from the clothes and then pumping out the moisture through the drain is really quite amazing. Installation is certainly easier when you don't have to install a vent.
