Your Opinion Please on a Potential New Build

As you can see from our signature we have had a 2955RL since 2005. The size fits our style and our needs. Over the years we have shared much and learned much from our MOC friends. The wife and I want to continue our RV'ing but maybe upgrade a little.

Here is what we are thinking about, a 2015 3150RL, trading in our 2005 2955RL.

It would have the following options:
-Correct Track Alignment System
-Dual Pane Frameless Windows
-Goodyear "G" tires
-second A/C
-King Size Bed
-Fantastic Fans all around
-6 point leveling system
-Slider Awnings
-Montana Legacy Edition Package

Any comments about the options? I value the opinions of the MOC folks. Anything else we should consider? Or not consider?

What I am having a hard time trying to figure out is are we getting a good and fair trade in value for our 2005. The inside is in mint condition and the trailer is full of upgrades. We sure would like to recoup some of that toward the new Montana. Ball park right now the salesman is stating a MSRP of $85400 with our trade in it would be about $45800 difference. Where are we in preliminary negotiations? High, low or forget it? The salesman has been talking about $20,000.00 for our trailer, I just have no reference point to gauge this.

Thanks friend!

We had a 2006 3400rl traded it for a 2014 3725 and got 29,000 for it it to was a great trailer and only sat on the lot 1 week before it sold to its next owner. Hope you get a great deal the options you list are the ones we got also and are very happy with the new unit. I found that there is a lot of room in the purchase price so go in dealing and get the very best deal for you.. They will deal trust me if not then go some place else. I had all the numbers I needed by looking at Internet pricing went into the deal eyes wide open. Hope this helps a bit happy camping.

Of course you are thinking of a 3160 right. I would seriously consider home theatre seating as well.

After having them, I would not have a 5er without Disk Brakes. I don't know what the Correct Track System cost, but for my money I would invest in the Mor/ryde IS System.
As for trade value, probably not much help, but I know the 2010 2955 we had only had a list of $42K. I know we all hope to recoup some of the money we spend on upgrades, but it seems they don't seem to matter much when trading.
Best wishes getting a new unit, then the upgrades start all over again.

I have a '14 3150RL. That floor plan was discontinued in mid 2014.

To me he is trying to sell it for list and you give him your trailer. No way would the numbers work for me.

We added Level-up, G614's, Slide Toppers, IS and Disk brakes and our rig came with dual pane windows and dual AC's. We wouldn't want a new rig without these things.

We are looking also, for a 3160rl, from what we are finding you are paying full retail on your new rig. KEEP SHOPPING

Good luck

Does anybody have a copy of the latest Montana models build sheet?

From what I can see much has changed option wise. Things like correct track, 6 point level, fireplace, and MOR/ryde hitch pin are now Mandatory options and I am sure the list goes on. It appears once you order the Legacy option there really are only a few options left to decide on.

In my Opinion the IS Suspension is not that big of a deal for most of us save your money as is the dual pane windows they cut out some noise but they are NOT gas filled and do not make the RV much more warmer in the winter and add a lot of weight and cost for not that much gain ..... just my 2 bits

You might run your old coach on http://www.nada.com/. It should give you an idea as to its value. Also Google the year and model. It should bring up comparable sales. I used both of these to sell our old coach. I got $6000.00 more than was offered to trade it by selling it outright.

Realize the dealer is either going to give you a price for your rig that you find fair and then not move much on the new rig price, or he'll low ball you on your trade and then negotiate down some on the list of the new one. Either way his goal is to extract the same amount of net profit. Your best bet is to go in armed with knowledge of what your rig is selling for retail and what his is going for, realizing he's not going to give you retail for yours (unless he stays firm on a high cost of new rig), but you want it as close as possible.
Other factors come into play such as location and local market. For instance, negotiating on my new SOB this month - 2 identical new rigs, except the one at the smaller volume beach dealer was a 2014 instead of 2015 and priced $2,000 higher than the one at a big city high volume dealer. Initial offer on my 2009 3400RL from the beach dealer was also $7000 less than big city dealer offered! $9000 net difference. Guy at the beach told me that he'd have a hard time reselling my rig because people vacationing at the beach want a trailer they store there all year and then have towed out onto a site for a week or 2 each summer. They don't care about MorRyde, 6 point leveling, good tires, a furnace/dual pane/insulation, etc. And they can pay $30,000 for a brand new budget 5er, so why pay 30,000+ for a 6 year old one? Anyway, we negotiated more, but he never got closer than $2500 from big volume guy (who has a good rep and is closer to me as well).
I would imagine a 10 year old rig will be harder to move for some dealers, so you may have to accept a bit less than your goal, but if so, try to get him to move on his selling price. A quick review of rigs similar to yours on rvtrader shows most retailing for high teens low 20s, though hard to tell if they are as nice as yours sounds. As a point of reference I ended up accepting $28000 for my rig, which some may say is too low. However, I haven't added any options to it to speak of (basically standard 3400 with a front AC and Mor Ryde), and have less than $700 in repairs in it during 6 full seasons(40+ nights per year), so I don't have a lot of $$ sunk into it. The interior is in outstanding shape, but the outside has terrible decal peeling and some gel coat scratches. It looks like a 6 year old rig up close. Given what I paid for it, I will have used it for 6 years for less than $20000 out of pocket (not including yearly property tax and insurance of course). I'm OK with that. Bottom line, it's tough to tell anyone else what to do - you just have to be comfortable with the end result and also don't fret over it. Someone, somewhere will get a better deal than you and someone else will pay way too much. I don't lose sleep over that. Good luck.

I am not sure how much money the dual pane windows are as an ordered option, but as already has been mentioned they are not sealed units, or argon gas filled. You would have the same result if you took some construction glue and stuck an extra thin piece of glass over each of your existing windows. They will cut down slightly on outside noise and possibly make your unit a little easier to heat/cool. With the existing R values in the sidewalls of Montana's I wouldn't want to carry the extra weight.

We opted for the dual panes. For cold weather camping, they make a big difference on my opinion. As an added benefit, very little condensation-especially when cooking.

Darwin,

I would use this site to custom build what you want. Target price I would use 30% off MSRP. HOOK (MOC 11401) Larry Sessoms got me a good deal on our 3611RL that is on order.
