Dish problems

Ok, we have Dish pay as you go, HD, Winegard Traveler, I changed from Direct TV to the Dish package on the roof.
All has been well, had home KC channels cbs nbc so on.
We got to Amarillo and had to call to get local stations, they came up (after 2 calls) now we don't have HD, but do have local.
Called again, girl knew nuttin, got tech, he said we need the 3rd satellite 61 or 65??
So had to change programming on rooftop box, he did not know how to do it, connected me with Wineguard... Who are closed today, and hung up.
Does this sound right to you folks?
That would mean I would have to keep re- programming the box every move. Smells like a dead fish to me...

Ozz,
Doesn't sound right to me if I'm reading the ads for the Trav'ler correctly. I've been considering the same setup but think I'll wait and see how you make out.

The 6x satellites sre the eastern arc sats. At home (north of Dallas) or in the Monte (in TX, LA, AR, OK, MO, NM, CO) we get the western arc sats, 110, 119, and 129. We have a fixed antenna at home and a Tailgater for the Monte. We have always received HD but I don't know which sat it comes in on.

I've had the problem of no hd after changing locals a couple of times. The problem is if you call the people on phone don't properly change them over. I never call anymore. Go to Dish on line and set up your account with user name and password if you don't have one. Them look for the place to live chat with a representative. I tell them I travel in an rv and want to change my service address. Give them new address and zip and done within 10 minutes. Works for me.

David, that sounds like a good idea. We talked to one rep and two tecs tonight, the second tech said in this area the signal comes from local equipment that isn't updated enough... I don't know.. We get all other HD channels
She said all my equipment checks out.??????
Frustrating.

We've been all over Texas and most western states and had hd everywhere we've been. I don't think there is any local equipment-it's all satellite. Have you tried resetting the receiver to seek if that helps?

The second tech had me unplug and plug back in.. No joy
Thanks Dave, was worth a try. I just can't believe all customers in Amarillo don't have HD..

Just had this problem this fall. Down here near Jacksonville I would have to reprogram to get HD for the local channels. Didn't do it and it hasn't made that much difference to us. Back home we had to switch from HD to regular when we had heavy rain anyway and down here it's rained a lot so we would probably be off HD most of the time anyway.

Ozz--After a full summer of travel, I found the CHAT mode worked best. As others have said--I always start--" I am traveling in my RV..." Then request the HD service for my program package and add the local channels for my current location (full address with street, city and ZIP. And Finally--do not change my Billing Address--since I still have a stick house. About 20 minutes later, all is well.
I have usually not experienced that success when I talked to anyone at Dish--I think most of those folks are just sales staff.

I am not familiar with the Traveler, but looking at manuals on line for the Traveler with Dish it only mentions sats 110, 119, and 129. They did not mention the 6x eastern sats. I don't see how it could access both western and eastern sats at the same time.

What Dish receiver do you have?

When you call Dish ask for an RV specialist if you have not already.

We have the Hopper and 3 Joeys at home with a fixed 3 LNB antenna receiving 110, 119, and 129. We do get HD but I could not tell you for sure which sat the HD comes in on, but I think 119. I do know that the major networks channels in HD come in from one sat and the equivalent network SD channels come from another. On occasion during storms we may lose say NBC HD and still be able to get NBC SD. Or vice versa. Normally we have both anytime.

We only call Dish to get local channels when we are going to be in one spot for more than a couple days, and then only pick the option to talk to a tech, never a cust service rep. If we want locals at an overnight stop, we crank up the regular antenna and get locals that way. We have been coast to coast and we are only setup to receive signal from the 110, 119, and 129 sats, and have had HD always. Seems when we call to change our physical address, we have to unplug to reset the boxes if we are wanting signal right away, otherwise, if we leave to get dinner or something, when we get back, the service is changed and working.

Ozz,
I didn't see any reference to a solo node. It is required by the Hopper. It takes twin coax leads from the lnb on your traveler. The output is a single coax from the port marked 'host' that then goes directly to the input of the Hopper. Specs call for 3ghz coax but quad shield will work.
Here is the diagram:

Let us know.....

Also, do a check switch to make sure you have locked on to 110, 119 & 129. Lastly did you subscribe to HD channels?

What puzzles me is Ozz having that problem out west. I've never had that out there. Here in the east I can understand, somewhat. I don't get the HD local channels, but all my cable channels come in HD.

Hi Ken,
Good morning, I do have the node, and ran the diagnostics, all jam-up, and I am signed up for HD, I had it in Russell, had it in Dodge City, the locals were still home base; KC Mo but now... Butkus

The tech said all my equipment checked out and was fine.
