Frozen Valves in3800RE

Hey Guys:

Got a problem with frozen black tank and grey tank dumping valves. We are full timers headed to AZ. Stopped in Sisters OR. It got really cold.
I am presently keeping my furnace on ALL THE TIME. Have space heater in basement behind water hook up station. The daytime temp.today is below freezing but going above tomorrow ( Nov 17, 2014 )
I dare not add water to my fresh water system as I feel my grey tank may be almost full.
HELP ! We do not want to be stuck here. Our winter home, Meridian RV, awaits.

thank you

Move the rig south. A near full tank has nothing to do with tugging the rig to a better climate.

From the point where you see the large black outlet pipe disappear into the lowered front part of the frame, it is only a couple of feet to each of the valves on each tank. The question then is how would one get enough heat to the point to where it might have some effect. Short of moving south, I don't think there is much one can do with the cold outside temps. John

You could try putting a couple of trouble lights up in there and see if that would warm it enough.

When our black gate valve froze last year, prior to pulling out for Florida, the temps only came up to around 30 degrees the next day. Like you I kept the furnace on. I let it run all night and into the morning set on about 75 plus a ceramic heater in the basement. I crawled under the Montana and carefully used a heat gun on the black discharge pipe. After about 45 minutes of that my valve finally released to I could dump the tank.

From that point on whenever any of my tanks get closed in temperatures under 32 degrees I add RV antifreeze to them. Never had an issue since that time and it was 14 degrees when we got up this morning.

Thank you all for your input.

To JandC: Why did I not think of adding RV antifreeze to the system?
What a great idea !

We are headed south out of Bend, OR to California and the heat, then to AZ. Can not wait !

You'll be happy when you get here. Cold front came thru and the temp in Yuma is down to 72 today.

Hey Guys:

thanks for input on frozen tanks and valves. I followed the unanimous advise and went South. Now in Arizona. Temperature 75 F and NO frozen valves or tanks. Got to love the heat.
Happy trails.
