I think fivers have a much better kitchen layout than any motorhome. We looked at a LOT of motorhomes when we were shopping for a RV and not one of them had the kitchen storage or counter space that fifth wheels have. I also think fivers overall, have much better use of the space in them.

Yeah, I figured the cost must be much higher, so I will be doing a bunch more homework, before I even think about it.

We have caravanned several times with three other RVers...they all have MHs. One is relatively new and is all electric. It has a Whirlpool refer, an induction cooktop, and an Aqua Hot that provides hot water and heat. It would be nice to get rid of the propane system. However, I think that MH is quite pricey.

I would think that would force you into only RV parks with 50 amp hookups, or else run the generator a lot.

I guess I should add they have eight 6v batteries and a 2000 w pure sine wave inverter/charger (used with four of the batteries) and a 2800 PSW inverter/charger used with the other four batteries. Having said that, I don't think the do much dry camping. FYI, the coach is a 2012 American Tradition...don't know which model.

I just quizzed our RV dealer about why they don't sell motor homes anymore, and he said after 25 years in business we realized they were not making us the profit that the 5th wheel trailers were, because they were clogging up our service department with all kinds of issues. So I have heard they are pricier up front, and their registration and insurance is higher, their gas mileage is lower than our RAM truck pulling our Monty, and they are in the shop 2-3 times more? So I guess, unless you can afford the Million Dollar motor homes, you will be paying the price for less quality in the 2-300k motor homes that Thor and Tiffen are mass producing?

Thor Challenger 37GT, 2014 with options, 3,200 miles, still under Ford factory warranty, priced way less than $95,000. Don't let your DW see this unit or your Montana will be gone!

Nice, but my Dad had a 37 foot Triton V10 Bounder, and it could not go up hills very well, and got terrible gas mileage? I would want a Diesel pusher, and right now, I'm thinking I have this great one ton dually truck to do all kinds of other projects around the house, so I'm leaning back to sticking with the 5th wheel trailer.

A few reasons for us UMMMMMMMMM need more CASH for a Diesel pusher for one as the V10 Ford is a good motor but a gas guzzling gutless Pig in a Class A I had one in my F350 and it barley pulled my old 2004 Monty But the main reasons for us is we have never been in a
Class A with much of a Kitchen and the placement of the TV's in a Class A's are never very good(why is that???) ,and having to have a toad and the biggest thing is just about Every time there is a Mobile Tech in the RV Parks they are working on a Class A BUT I tell ya one thing I sure liked driving our old Holiday Rambler Class A with that gutless Old Ford 460 we did have a lot of good times in that Rig even going 30 MPH up some mountain passes

We just sold our 8 year old 40 ft diesel pusher and bought a 3440RL Montana. That was a tough decision because we liked our motorhome. What helped make up our minds was sitting along the I-5 for 6 hours waiting for a tow rig big enough to move us. Then we paid over $3000.00 to replace the fan clutch. Then 13 days later the new fan clutch failed and another 7 hour wait to get towed. This was after we had to replace the leveling jacks, $4000.00. Replace leaky roof $4200.00. New tires $2500.00. New Shocks $1,000.00. This was all within about 1.5 years. The unit was In really good condition, but watching the thing get towed twice and realizing how helpless it feels when dealing with a monster that I couldn't possibly work on myself was unsettling.just an oil change is around $250.00. I think my wife has PTSD from hearing the overheating warnings going off in the MH. And then sitting with our big dogs for 6+ hours did her in.

Great comments. We are considering the same thing next time we trade. I normally trade 5th wheel and DRW tow vehicle every 3 years. Now tow vehicles cost 60K plus. Might go with MH next time an F150 to tow.

If you look at new Class A diesel's or gassers, just keep in mind they are like all other RV's in pricing. You can almost automatically take 30% off that phony MSRP you initially see.

Even though we initially began looking at new units, we found that the market is very well stocked with low mile 2012 to 2015 used units. Examples would include the gasser unit I already described (which also came with 5 year extended warranty), or a 2014 diesel with 14,000 miles that could be had for barely over $100,000.

I would never buy a new diesel pusher. I'd look for a higher end model a couple of years old. That way you get a very nice coach, loaded, for what you'd pay for a new gasser. Plus, hopefully, the bugs would be worked out.

Tom,

I agree, we saw a Brand new Newmar King Aire at one of our RV stops, and I looked them up on line, and they are $962,000 new. So I looked up used ones, and there were two 2014's with 10-15,000 miles on them, and thy were both about 465k? That is crazy to drop that much in two years? I know the people that bought the new one probably paid about 750k rather than 962k, but still, that is a huge drop.

We had a mh years back. We like our 5er much better. We see many reasons already listed here. We just experienced a breakdown of our TV. Easily repaired, but we could have replaced TV. We also were able to live in 5er during TV repair. JMHO
