I have a 100# tank that I use at my winter location. When I need to fill it I transport it on it's side. I fill it at a propane co. not just a refill station. My guy there says not to store it horizontal as it can plug the valve, but to transport a few miles on it's side should not be a problem. I have never had a problem but always stand it up as soon as I get back to my site.
