You can't go wrong with the Cummins Engine. You need to know what your hitch weight is and the GVW of the truck you are looking at. You just might consider going with a 3500 to carry the weight better!

I have a '12 Laramie DRW as seen in the sig. You will be over the rear axle GAWR and over the trucks GVWR. It probably will not have the over load leaf which will require air bags.

Being a 2500 I would look to see what RE ratio it has. I would want a 3.73. If it has the 3.42 and you pull around 60-65 or so you will probably want to lock it into 5th.

A 2500 with a 3.42 is a great daily driver and a light load tow'r, but for a 14k+ 5th, too light of a truck for me.

You'll love the truck but hate the fuel mileage.

Before you purchase any TV, especially a Ram 2500 or any other 3/4 ton vehicle, open the drivers side door and look at the GVWR of the vehicle, my guess on this truck you will be looking at less than 9500 lbs, the curb weight is likely in the 7000 lb range so that leaves you with a maximum of 2500 lbs for passengers, hitch and tongue weight of your RV.

I don't think you are going to be close to having sufficient capacity. You also want to know what the axle ratio is, I would consider nothing less than 3.73, but I think these came with 3.42.

Great Cummins engine, crappy fuel mileage. As you can see from my profile I have a 2012 - 3500 DRW and I like pretty much everything about the truck except the fuel mileage.

A 2500 of any breed would not be in the cards for me towing a heavy 5th wheel.

I have 2010 3500 4x4 single wheel long bed.
Has all the power I need. Put air bags on as well, which really helps as well. I would recommend it.
We pull a 2013 285rld.

As you can see from my signature, I have a 2009 2500 shortbed. I bought it new and it's been a great truck so far. The Cummins pulls like a tractor with lots of torque and the turbo and exhaust brake are must haves.
As long as the truck you are looking at meets your towing requirements and has been well maintained, I give it a thumbs up.

I tell my friends that I get great gas mileage. Then I remind them I don't use gas, but diesel.

Two years ago we bought 2008 Dodge 2500/single wheel with the intention of adding a Montana at a later date. Believe it or not, I bought a 2013 3400RL on Craigslist from a couple in Bristol Virginia a year ago and left it there stored until June of this year. Before I picked it up I added air bags to the rear axle. Did it myself after watching a youtube video. I was scared to death when I first hooked it up but once I got on the interstate it pulled the camper like a dream. I hit a couple of bad storms going through Texas and New Mexico and I hardly felt it. There is a very steep downhill section from Flagstaff to Phoenix starting just after you pass the Prescott exit ramp on I-17. I put on the exhaust brake and downshifted into 3rd or 4th and very rarely had to hit the brakes. Now having said all of this, the camper was pretty much at its factory weight so I still have to experience a tow with a fully loaded camper. Right now we are just doing local runs to get the feel of everything but so far no surprises.

I have a 2013 Ram 3500 DRW with the aisin trans and love it. I do know that RAM redesigned the trucks in 2013 with all new and better designed heavy duty frames with a completely new front end, they say the 2013's and 2012's are completely different except for the body panels and you might want to look at that before you buy an older truck especially if you are going to go with a 2500 because the 2013 an on trucks have a larger payload.

Agree, 2500 is not enough truck, 3500 is the way to go.

I have a 2500 HD with the 1 ton rear end and I just love it. Changed the 6 speed to a fuller 12 speed transmission so I get around 15 mpg pulling my Cougar 277 don't know what i will get with the new trailer but I know it should be over 12 mpg. Good luck!
