That figures! GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!

After reading the recall, less than 150 tires out of the 841,000 have been found with the problem. That's like what...less than a quarter of a percent failure rate. I'd like to see the stats on the tire they are going to replace it with before I go though the headache of getting them replaced.

Ugggggg......

This post made me go look at my Commercial TA's. Since mine were put on 3/08 made be realize they are due for replacement next year. Over 23k miles and they still look great. I'm thinking the replacements tires will be the same. Jim

From NHSTA:
NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 12T019

Synopsis:
Michelin is recalling certain BF Goodrich Commercial T/A A/S LRE and Uniroyal Laredo HD/H LRE tires, sizes LT235/85R16 120 Q and LT245/75R16 120 Q. These tires may develop a separation at the tread/belt edge. Tread/belt separation of the tire while the vehicle is in use can result in rapid air loss which may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Michelin will notify owners and replace the affected tires free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, August 6, 2012. Owners may contact Michelin Consumer Care at 1-800-637-5527.

What I want to know, is why Goodyear hasn't recalled the Marathon Tires? They sure have a higher failure rate.

My BFG Commercial T/A AS will be on the Montana 2 years in October. They have about 15,000 miles on them, and look as good as the day I had them put on.

Just got mine on Mountaineer last August with current DOT dates. My axle wt runs around 9000 lbs so I think I'll wait to see what they offer as replacements. I can't imagine them having enough corrected Comm T/As made. Please post as you have tires replaced.

I talked with my dealer Saturday, and he also hadn't heard about the problem. He called back today, and had gotten more info. There aren't any tires available now, so here's my question. Has anyone tried Michelin LTX M/S2's? Is this the ribs? He has offered these, so I want to quiz the experts on this. Thanks. JT.

I had the Commercial T/A's put on last Wednesday and the recall came out on Thursday, so how is that for timing. They are on the list so I contacted a local dealer this afternoon even though I had Costco put them on. They are closer to the house and will call me back tomorrow.

I think these manufacturers found something wrong with their manufacturing process attributing to tire failures which caused the recall. I think Goodyear didn't find anything wrong on their end to force a recall. They must think their tires are good, but they are just failing. I wonder if another factor seems to be the fact that the recalled tires are on vehicles that carry people! We mustn't forget it seems trailers don't count as much. I am now reading laws are changing, for example, in California one can travel in a towed fifth wheel, but since I have Marathons NO ONE travels in there.

This is only my opinion and shall not be regarded as fact for anything. Someone brought up why Marathons are not recalled and there's my opinion.
