Preliminary Mileage results

On the first tank, mixed driving, no towing, I got 16.5 MPG. On a 150 mile trip today mostly hwy driving @ 65 MPH, the result was 18.2. That is about a 40% increase over the 2008.

Running at 65 MPH, the engine was turning just at 1500 rpm. The 2008 turned 2000 rpm at 60MPH. I may be wrong, but I expect as the engine approaches 3000 to 5000 miles, there should be a 2 to 4 MPG increase in the mileage figures. We will see.

With 500 miles on the truck, I am now ready to tow. The tow from here to Colorado will give me wide variations of terrain conditions to discover its towing characteristics and associated mileage.

Thanks for the update Stiles. I was thinking about buying a new 2011 Ford myself. I was wondering what mileage the new trucks were getting. Please keep us posted on what you get towing.

Hi Stiles.
A guy at our campground just traded a F350 dually that got 15 mpg solo for a 2011 F-450 dually and at 5000 miles he is getting 21 mpg solo. He is very happy about that.

This is great news on the milage issue. Can't wait to see how the new engine holds up after 100-200k. To me the Cummins engine is the longevity standard. I've got only 34k on my 2008 6.4 F450 and it has run great and done everything one could want pulling my 3150RL with no problems. Just got back from an around the country 5 month trip logging over 10K pulling miles. Transmission braking is very good although the addition of an engine brake would make it only better. Milage is my only complaint. I get 8.9-9.5 pulling the Monty and best, empty, on flat road and at 55mph about 16.5. The F450 is great for towing!

I have pulled my 3075 Monty from Ontario to Texas and am presently on my way back via Florida. My 2011 F350 is averaging 14.8 mpg. With the new engine and 6 spd trans it seldom downshifts into 5th gear. At 62 mph the engine revs a very comfortable 1500 rpm. I have added about 4 gal of DEF in the 5000 miles driven.

18.2 MPG... WOW! Thats good stuff right there. I will be picking up our new HC 313 this weekend with the 11 f350. Im expecting around 10-12mpg pulling it home.

Re my post of March 29 referring to fuel consumption by my 2011 F350- the value has dropped to 13.1 mpg after two more days of towing along I10. This seems like a more realistic figure to me.
