brake controller issue

I have a Hayes Energize III controler that is 1.5 years old. It just began giving a dim light on the indicator that the brake is engaged when no pressure is on the brake pedal. This is when driving solo.

It stopped doing that, then came back 2 days later. Both intances of the erroneous red light is in the morning after an evening rain.

I called Hayes who first said the controller unit is under warrenty, swap it out. I called again to tell them the rain info, and they said could be water shorting the curcuit.

My female plug for the 7 wire cable is located in the bed of the truck. Would that likely be the area getting wet, or the area where the wires are in the engine compartment? Somer other problem?

Did I mention I am a complete electrical dummy?

Please educate me.

I had this happen once with my Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. It happened after driving more than 1,100 miles straight through the rain in one day. Has not happened since, but I am keeping an eye on it. (This trip was solo with just the truck, coach was at seasonal site).

Rain should not affect it. They are made for use in the back of a truck...they are going to get wet.
