Air Conditioning Not Working

Had our first day in the high eighties here in Yuma today - A/C not working we are getting very little air blowing out of the ceiling vents and the temperature was not dropping at all. Took the filter out of the A/C Unit and found the evaporator coil was frozen solid --- no air getting through. Will let the coil thaw overnight and tomorrow will take the ocver off the unit on the roof and check to see if anything looks like it is plugged. Any other suggestions????

Thanks

Les

I have the same problem every now and again. The trick I found is to leave the "dump" vent open, run the fan on "high" in the "on" mode, not automatic. This usually keeps the unit from freezing up.

To defrost the coil, just turn your fan only on on high, and stand back from the dump vent, this will thaw it in a hurry and the condensation will more than likely wind up some coming out of dump vent. Then in future do as Dave said run it on high and you will never have problem again.

Thanks for your help --- we got it defrosted and it seems to be working fine now.

We have never experienced that problem. When running the A/C we always provide some ventilation by cracking the roof vents , running the ceiling fan and when really hot run the fantastic fan on low.

Our few trips so far with the Montana have been COLD (by California standards) down in the 20s and we have made extensive use of the heater. However we are head down to the desert near Salton Sea and the weather channel says it is in the upper 90s so this trip we will get to tryout the A\C.

On the very cold day we did the PDI the A\C worked for the 5 minutes or so that we tried it so hopefully all will be well.

My questions are:
What is the "dump vent" and where is it?

Anything special I should know about using the A\C?

Not all Montana's have the same A/C, and some do not have the "dump vent" (which I assume is the "quick cool" vent mounted directly on the A/C).

This problem may not apply to the same extent on all Montanas, depending on the A/C unit you have, but I think all A/Cs can freeze up under the right conditions, and the solutions suggested seem appropriate.
