Gravity feed is the most economical. Just remember to fill up your truck tank, cap it off, then fill up the auxiliary tank. I never shut the valve on my aux tank, just let it free flow into the truck tank as it's consumed. I never asked why, but I hear people say "I stop and flip the valve to fill the truck tank". I just leave my valve open to begin with. I've done it that way for over 100k miles on my truck so far without issue. I have a locking fuel cap, and don't open the truck fuel cap when I know there's fuel in the aux tank.

I've considered this too, but honestly, by time my truck is on it's last quarter tank of diesel, I'm ready to stop, stretch, grab a drink, and a fuel stop serves those purposes well. Maybe I'm just not as "hard-core over the road" driver as some of you.

We feel the same way. After 24 years over-the-road trucking I like to enjoy the drive and stop when we decide to. The factory fuel tank gives us 300+ miles per day and not being full timers fueling each day if needed is no big deal for us. Our travels are few that fuel prices do not break us. Cost of various aux tanks are big $$$to us.

i went with the replacement tank from titan. i have a short bed and already had a tool box. it is expensive when you have it installed; around $1700.

I have installed mine with the pump and filter on the transfer tank, I like the idea of filtering the fuel I receive from the service station, I can also see what is going into my tank with the clear glass filter. It is a bit more money, and a inconvenience when doing a transfer, but at 12 - 15 gal per min it is quick to do a 30 gal fill.

It was a good investment for me and will be for anybody regardless of the type of installation is done.

anyone using an extra fuel tank in the bed of the truck and is it connected directly to the fuel tank or is it a pump? really thinking about adding one to the truck, like 50 gal but dont know much about the pitfalls or issues with them etc.... any advice would be appreciated.

Not that it probably matters but I did notice that the car wash I use does not permit trucks with fuel tanks in the bed. I have no idea how widespread that policy is...

I drive a dually so I don't fit thru any car wash or a lot of drive thru's for that matter. Did you ask them the reason why?

No I didn't since I don't have a fuel tank in the bed. I just happened to notice it.

I agree but the main reason I want to install an aux in bed fuel tank is to have the extra range and peace of mind in an emergency. Living in Florida on the coast if the need ever arises where I need to hook-up the Monty an "bugout" because of a hurricane or some other emergency I want to have the extra 3 or 4 hundred mile range to get out of harms way and back again with out refueling or to get farther away from the crowds looking to find fuel or supplies..Hopefully that need will never arise but if it does it will be nice to have...
