Portable Campfire
Last fall in our travels throughout the northwest we found a couple of nice private RV Parks that didn't have fire pits or allowed any burning other than a BBQ. We noticed numerous campers had the portable propane camp fires and now we want to buy one to use on our trip to Yellowstone in June. There's several choices and I thought I would poll the forum to seek your advice on a good portable propane campfire, brand and why? Thanks

We have the Camp Fire In A Can and it is a great unit. It is advertised at 65,000 BTU and it is toasty on winter nights. The flame is fully adjustable from tiny to a large fire. Camping World sells a similar one for half the price, but from what I have seen, it is cheaper, but not of the same quality. www.campfireinacan.com

I have the little red one that camping world sells and would not reccomend it. It is too small. I did see a nice one at Sams club. Do not remember the brand of it but was priced at $99 I think.

I use the Redwood Portable firepit by Camp Chef. It is perfect for those campground that won't let you burn wood. The full price is listed at $175.00, but I got it for $99.00. They have it on sale for $99 regularly. It also has its own carrying bag to keep it clean and all self contained.

We use the Campco Little Red Campfire along with a small propane tank (10 gallon) for it. We have used it a lot and love it. there is also an accessory you can buy for it which will let you cook over it. Here is a link of one on Amazon. Shop around for best price.

Speaking of propane fires; i have been wanting to purchase a small, lightweight cylinder to use with our Weber Q220 grill. I have been looking at the fiberglass/composite cylinders. I had an 11 pound cylinder in the old days, that was perfect for grilling for a week or more.
Has anyone had experience with fiberglass cylinders? I know when they were first introduced, they were not approved by DOT and were difficult to have filled. Have they since been approved, and are propane filling stations on board with filling them now?

I have two metal 4# cylinders I bought from Loew's. Use them for my grill because they fit in my rack in the back of the truck right where the King Pin passes over. They work well for my grill.

I have a New Frontier by FireSense all stainless steel unit.(they also make one with an aluminum top lid, but I figured it would get dented up too easily)

I don't know about all make of composite cylinders but I had 2 10lb Lite Cylinders on our sailboat and they were DOT approved and had no problem filling them anywhere.
I loved them on the boat because of the corrosive environment..
