Pickup Bed Dual Genset 2x4 Wood Frame

A while back I remember seeing a gent here that had built a wood 2x4 dual Honda 2000i frame that included a spare gas jug holder just inside his bed. I remember thinking what a great idea it was. Does anyone remember the posters name that had this pic in his signature? I would really like to look at the pic again.

We are going back and forth as to going with an installed Onan propane genset or two gas 2000i's. We had a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit cover placed on the F350 so feel fairly comfortagle the gensets won't grow legs in the middle of the night.

Thanks!

X2! I'm getting ready to try and build one, but don't need to reinvent the wheel.

I think the member's real name was Don or Tom but I don't know what the actual member-name was, but I do remember the pictures very well since they were on the member's signature. I believe the member has changed their sig since I have not seen this picture in some time.

The setup was lengths of 2x4s at the back of the truck bed next to the tailate which surrounded one gen on one side or the bed, the other gen on the other side of the bed and an external fuel tank setup in the middle. This was all locked down somehow to minimize theft. It all looked like it could easily fit under a truck bed cover.

I hope this helps jog someone's memory.

Tom S. is the username of the person you are trying to remember. I did find a thread that showed a pic, but I would suggest possibly trying a direct contact via e-mail or PM. Here is the thread that I found:

Generator thread

The pic I found is about halfway down the first page. Hope this helps,

Bingo

Thanks!! Exactly what we were looking for. I pulled the picture and sent Tom S a PM to see if he had any plan, or if he had suggestions based on experience and an explaination of what exactly he does with his cable anti theft system. When I get an answer I'll post it, if he hasn't already come on here.

Thank You Bingo. That's the one. Hopefully Tom might show up and let us know if he would do anything different now that he has been using it for some time. Seems like a good solution.

Here's what I got from Tom: Hi Dick - sorry I missed the posting, but I don't go on the board much other than at the fall rally. To answer your questions, no I don't have any plans or sketches for the set up. I used treated lumber and built it so it fits tight in the bed. In fact, it has to be tilted a lot to put it in and take it out, and you will note I also had to cut the bottom corners of the outside boards off. Attached are pictures, and I did go out an measure it, so there's also a Word file with the dimensions. You'll have to remember, my truck is a 2006 Chevy, so this may not work with others. The eye bolts in the photos are for bungee cords to hold the generators in place, along with the gas tank that sits in the middle. I use a 9 or 12 foot (I forget which) plastic coated cable the wraps under the box, over and through the handles of each generator and through the legs of our trailer hitch.

Hope this helps, and feel free to post it on the board!

Tom S.

I'm no good at posting pictures and word docs on the forum so if anyone is interested PM me and I'll send you all Tom sent me.
