TV Tires

I need to replace the 6 tires on my 2008 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD DRW Duramax. OEM size is 225/75-17. The two tires types that I am considering are the:

Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor - OEM size

or

Michelin LTX MS2 - 235/80-17.

What tires are you running on your TV and would you recommend them?
Are there any other I should consider?

I run the BF Goodrich Commercial TA and have been very satisfied with them. I also run them on the trailer.

The General Grabber HTS is the best TV tire I have ever had. Go to Tirerack.com and compare the user feedback, specs, etc. with the other popular favorites.

I had those same two choices on my 4 wheeler and went with the Michelin because they have great reviews for longevity. I'm sure the Silent Armor is probably okay too, but in my area, the Goodyears were more expensive (so were Bridgestone). Longevity and less price, I went with the Michelin MS2, but a different size than what you are looking for. I forget what I had before but only lasting 60,000 miles I went with the Michelins (should last about 70,000 miles)

Warning: The tire store I went to thought they would do me a favor by offering a slightly different Michelin because it was cheaper (I forget which one). I then asked for their book, and showed him where he missed that I needed over 3500lb weight rating on the tire and it did not meet the need. I ended up with the MS2.

Check the sidewall and make sure the weight ratings meet your need. Not all Load Range E's will support the same amount of weight. There's another index to use but if you look at the sidewall, the weight in numbers (for a dually application) will be stamped there.

As you probably already know, there isn't much available in the OEM size of LT225/75R17. I am assuming that is why you are considering the LT235/80R17 size which has many more brands and styles available. You may also know there is a pretty big difference in the dimensions of the two sizes. Just in case you don't know what that difference is;

LT225/75R17 - 8.86 inches wide and 30.3 inches overall diameter.
LT235/80R17 - 9.25 inches wide and 31.8 inches overall diameter.
Difference - 0.39 inches in width and 1.5 inches overall diameter.

The overall diameter difference will cause your speedometer/odometer to be off by quite a lot, and may also cause your transmission shift points to change. The GM dealer can reprogram the computer to compensate for this, but only by a limited amount.

The width difference will narrow the space between your duals by 0.78 inches. This could be a problem if the duals get closer than about one inch at the bottom.

What I am hearing the type of tire is important but the size may be a bigger concern regarding the spacing between the dually tires. What have other folks done regarding tire size on a 2007 - 2010 Chevy or GMC 3500HD?

I have the silent armors on my truck and love them. I have 43000 miles on them and the tread is still great. They are quiet and have great ice and snow traction which I need where I live.
