Ethyl, did you burn the roast again???
Naaa, I had the son-in-law fix up on the heat...
Actually, to let the poor son-in-law some slack, one of the D.C. relays melted down, the contacts were probably pitted and caused too much resistance and burned up. I replaced all 6 of the Potter Brumfield 22 volt coil relays.
And, she only burned the roast once, but Gomer never forgot it....

Michael, it is the 'business' of an electric heater, it slides into the cavity of an air handler. All that Black stuff is the result of a 50 amp melt down. the little relay melted and the plastic and ozone stuck to the bright colored metal of the insert. It's supposed to look bright like the upper front right of the insert.

Ok, here is the offending relay, but the power spike took out the rest of them, I took one apart to show what is inside.

Someone had a tag on the first breaker to not use. I think they needed 1/3 of the capacity, but this was the only heat package available, so they used it in a reduced capacity.
Hard to figure out what is going on sometimes when you walk up on a job. I am sure you can relate to that...

It actually looks like part of the machine used by the wizard to get Dorothy back to Kansas.
