AC problem
Hey all,
Out here in the nice southern california weather trying to stay at least luke warm and not well done, anyways having problems with the main ac in the 3400. yezterday it was around 113 outside and the unit would run for a few minutes and then shut off. it would kick the 20 amp breaker in the trailer in the process. everything worked great up till yesterday with the extreme heat, after it started to get in the evening hours i decided to try it again and everything worked great and ran all night. so i am not sure what to do, maybe tell it to kick rocks and find a replacement. please help, too hot in the trailer without one of the ac's. thanks

Check for loose wires at both ends, on the panel and the unit's power connection box.
Make sure the coils are clean, use a water hose and spray directly into the fins.
Don't use too much pressure, and go at it at a 90 degree angle; straight on.
Let us know.

Ozz is right about loose connections. By chance were you aware of the voltage coming to the trailer? Since it was so hot out there yesterday there should have been a huge demand on electricity and perhaps were you are the voltage was low. This would give you the same problem as having a loose wire somewhere, too much heat building within the system therefore tripping the breaker. I have volt meter plugged into a receptacle in the trailer that is in easy view. They are available at most RV dealers and CW.

Also, make sure the filter gets cleaned periodically. The one at the air inlet.

Steven, I had just about the same problem. Bought a used 5th wheel and the A/C would come on and pop the breaker in 35 minutes to 6 hours later. The fridge was the only thing else pulling 110 and we always had enough volts. After having techs looking at it 7 times and replacing every thing from thermostat, time limit switch and on and on, They decided it was a weak breaker in the RV. Replaced the breaker and it still popped. They finally concluded that it was the A/C motor that had a burn spot in the wiring causing it to heat up and pop a thermal breaker. They then replaced the top part of the A/C and I've not had a problem since.. Yes it was under warranty.
