Mountaineer Second Air Wiring

Has anyone added a second air conditioner to their Montana Mountaineer in the bedroom. I want one installed but I do not have the prewire. I am going to let the professional handle this one but I would like to hear from others who have been through the process. Did you have to make a converter upgrade? Is it worth the cost, to you, after the fact? I have the travel trailer and one unit just ain't cuttin the mustard. It is time for some serious cool air.

Thanks in advance!
Phil

I have esentially the same TT except for the kitchen arrangement. The dome in the shower is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen and it lets in a tremendous amount of heat. I removed the inner part and pryed off the plastic dome. Replaced it with with flat plexiglass and put on auto grade plastic sunscreen (Walmart). Be careful prying the dome off-very fragile piece of junk!

We leave the shades down, air vents facing straight front & rear and use a couple of fans to circulate the cool air from the floor when it is hot outside.

I have to agree though that the A/C is a woefully inadequate unit.

Phil...

I have a 07 319bhd and a 2nd AC is a must as the rear bedroom Get's very, very little AC. I have been to our dealer to inquire about the adding the 2nd unit. More concerned about running the wiring ( no pre wire ) sure do not want wall panels or the inside dis-assembled to get the job done....

I have the same situation on my Mountaineer 342PHT. Not enough cold air to the master bedroom, and I am not pre-wired either. This is the first post I have found regarding this.

I can offer an opinion on the upgraded converter....no you don't need it. The A/C runs off of AC current not DC. The Coverter produces DC power from the Campground AC. You WILL need to have 50A AC service to run both A/Cs at once. you can alternate and run one at a time if you are connected only to 30A service.

We have a comment about the heat coming through the shower dome. We put 2 layers of bubble wrap between the dome layers. Works great. Cuts the heat down. We used the large bubble wrap.

The wiring is really not a bad job, depending on where your breakers are. I installed and wired my second unit.
Just stick the wire in the ceiling center, dropping the vent and lighting fixtures as you go. You can also thread the wire down the hollow wall space. I would use 12-2 with ground wire.
I do encourage you to use a professional, even if just for wiring it into the breaker panel and A/C unit.

I am going to pull a couple covers tomorrow and see if our Mountaineer is prewired for the bedroom unit. We were told it was, but I sure wouldn't bet the farm on that being factual. I only believe what I see on this thing. The AC runs all day, and I can see it not keeping up in the coming months. With the way the heat comes through the roof, I don't think insulation will be a problem pulling wire in the ceiling. I may be wrong, but I looked at the specs, and I think all the Mountaineer fifth wheels have 50 amp service. I noticed the heat through the shower skylight also. Might have to try the bubble wrap. I also noticed the other vent/skylights allow a lot of heat in. I put the Maxx Air covers on, but they are the translucent ones. Anyone got the smoke colored ones; do they help?
