Question on tire size for the '07 3400RL

Can we go up one size in height on the tires and have OK clearance, any reason not to? Now; 235/80R16E
Hope this hasn't been hashed to death.
Thanks. Ozz

Ozz,
I am curious as to why you would like to increase your tire height?

Something you might wish to consider, (aside from a reason to do so,) as well, is the fact that there's very little clearance between tires and the molding that is above the tires.

This 2005 came with the left side's molding a tad too much forward. As a result, when going over bumps, the front tire rubbed against the middle pointed part of the molding, that is between the tires, and turned it a little black.

I've had the shop move it forward. But it did expose the terrific amount of travel these tires have. (I think it occurred when we had to go over a curb once in a while.)

You won't get "better mileage" with bigger tires, BTW.

A surefire way to get more height on your rig would be to reverse the shackles. Lots of folks who boon dock will do so. Gives a few extra inches of ground clearance. (Just remember that when stepping off the stairs!)

Measure your new height, though, for low clearances under bridges, etc....

Steve

Well, when I bought the rig a few weeks ago, I saw the Mission tires on it, (One was low on air with a screw in it) I refused to take delivery with them on it. Having extremely bad luck with Mission tires before, we were stranded in Gainsville Texas, while I had to buy and install 4 new tires on our Sprinter, no tire shop around even heard of Mission tires, so we got 4 new tires from Goodyear.
I requested Goodyear as the brand of new tires. They turned out to be load range 'D', so now I have 3,000 # rated tires 235/80R16D, which are going to be too light. What a mess..
No one in K.C. has any E's in that size, but a size larger (1.5" taller) some say that they can get. I'm still looking, but need to weigh my options. I will not roll 5 miles with Mission tires.
I Ok'd the tires, so it is my problem.

Ozz,

Well that 'splains a lot.

Thought you were just trying to "soup up" the Monty the way so many people do when they put those huge wheels, and tires that would burst of they ran over a pebble on what was heretofore heavy duty SUVs.

It never came to mind that it'd be that hard to get new tires for this rig.

But I can tell you...Firestone, General, B.F. Goodrich, Michelin, Toyo, Atlas, etc., will ALL have a problem if there's a screw sticking into it.

Ozz, I would not feel real good about that deal either, these rigs are heavy and need at least at E rated tire. i am more than likely going to go to G rated ones once these need replacing. These things take some abuse when cornering on the side walls and flex good bit. D rated ones would scare me.

A tire with a 1.5 " larger diameter will only raise your height by 3/4" of an inch. I don't think that will be a problem.

Last winter a friend of ours, who also has a Montana, blew one of his tires coming from KY. We stopped at SAMs and they had BF Goodrich tires in our size for only 105.00. They were load range E. I know where I am going when I have to change tires.
