Full Time Newbie

Hello All,

I inherited a 1997 Ford Superduty 1 ton and 2006 Montana 3400RL from my Dad almost a year ago when he passed. I picked up and moved across country from WY to OH for work - quite similar to how he lived. I have been learning about how to "do" this whole RVing thing by trial and error. Dad had lived in the camper for about 4 years without moving it and needless to say, I have found some issues since hauling it 1600 miles over some pretty awful roads. Any first timer advice will be appreciated.

Welcome,

First check the tires, if original change them regardless of tread. Check for water leaks from the roof down. Safety first, the rest later.

Thanks - that's the first thing I did when getting it road ready. I've found water leaks via wet carpet - gggrrr. Ordered new seam sealant stuff as well as materials to fashion "awnings" over the slides so that water runs off instead of down the sides. Don't want to pay the price for actual slide awnings.

Thanks Dick & Joyce. I've been scanning the boards for awhile now and finally just joined. I'm in the process of trying to install a new furnace and it's somewhat of a nightmare. Whoever designed where to put it in the rig needs shot - no access outside, fighting water lines, etc, etc... I tried to get someone to come install it for me but can't seem to find anyone willing to do it in the area and I've called 7-8 places. I'm get it eventually. Quick question - I have my propane line unhooked because of this and the propane line to the furnace is unhooked as well, can I hook my main line back up so that I have hot water and can use my stove? A little paranoid!

Welcome to the forum!

I do not recommend turning your propane on if you have lines unhooked.

Not sure if you have done this but mobile RV techs tend to be good to fix issues like your furnace.

Welcome,
X 2 on AZ Traveler. Your going to need that furnace quick. The furnace is what will keep your water lines from freezing. If you have to go get a couple ceramic heaters and put in the basement, you can leave them running after your furnace is back.
Good luck and stay warm.

What I usually do is check here for a fix and then to u-tube for a video on how to do the fix. Literally have saved hundreds of dollars with this methodology. Welcome to the Forum.
