Large Rear Window-Tint or Cover

I know its winter but I'm preparing for next summer. This summer the large rear window was nice in the Fla Keys looking at the Atlantic Ocean but it let in a lot of heat.
Question. How many have tinted the rear window and what color, Bronze, Silver or Smoke?
How many have brought the snap on covers for the outside to keep the sun out?
I like the looks of the cover but it might be a pain to put up just for a weekend trip.
The vast wisdom of the MOC forum will now come forward.
Hugh

We have a 3400 with the large rear window and had the similar problem
and thru this forum we found...and was suggsted a roll up shade. We ordered and had installed thru dealer for under $250 It was made by Carefree and you use your awning pull-down stick to pull it down and it latches to clips on the bottom. NO LADDER NEEDED. This was a plus as you can rollup and down whenever needed. It has been a lifesaver so far this fall with the warm suns down here in the desert. Hope this helps.

HughM,
We tinted our windows for the Texas Sun, it really make a big difference. You can tint double pane windows using the correct stuff. We got ours at either Home Despot, or Lowe's. I also don't remember what the shade color is, Sue is still in the rack, or I would ask her. She hasn't come down with the C.R.S. I seem to have now. I do remember when to eat...
Here is the link showing her putting it on. I helped a little,,,

Jim,
I think I know why Sue did that herself. Sort of like my DW. She wanted it done right the first time. Right?

Two years ago and after 2 months of the HOT Florida sun we had this Sun Screen added and it makes a world of difference. Prior to the screen, sitting in the recliners was almost like sitting in an oven. After the screen was added it was very comfortable sitting there.
You can see out but during the day no one can see in. At night, depending on inside lighting, they also can't see in.

I think all the swearing, arm flailing and griping about the cheap packaging and tools they send with it may have been the deal-breaker.

We have a nice screen we bought at an RV show that attached to the inside of the window with suction cups and has never come off. We love it - cost was aboyut $50.

We did the same thing as Ozz and Sue to all the windows. We only have the single air conditioner and it really helps to keep the 5th wheel cool.

I have the 3400 with the large rear window. I saw Glen's at the Branson 07 get together and liked what he had. I ordered the window shade from carefree colorado and installed my self. Was not that big of deal to install and we love it. It works like he said, cool in the daytime, can see out with no problem. That was one of our better purchases.

We have the factory dark tint windows and it makes a huge difference on heat and sun light. While visiting Phil and Cathy I look at his window pull down shades and liked what they have. So will paying less tax this year thanks to our new President we might be able to get a set. I recomend dark tint windows. GBY....

Phil, the instructions are pretty simple. There are 2 arm brackets at the top and two holders at the bottom. This is carefrees site that has the info - hope the link made it. http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/rv...asp?m=01010415

Ordered mine today, should be here in about 10 days. Rick, did you have to special order one since our rear window is 72" wide and they recommend an extra 3 inches. At least that is what I read on the carefree order form. Were you able to screw into something solid back there???? Sorry for all the ???? I just want to make sure I don't have to have it installed.....

Phil,
Sorry it's taken awhile to get back - I'm TDY in Alabama at Ft. Rucker and am having spotty wifi coverage. Yes I did have to special order it. I also screwed into the wall above the window, not really anything there but because there is no real weight on it I didn't worry. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Rick

Phil and Cathy..you will love the shade. One of the best investments we made other than the Montana itself. It has been a saving grace this fall with the warm temps we have been having in the desert this fall.

Shade came in today, pretty quick!! Will pick up tomorrow and install it when I can find time. I know, being retired is tough life. I think I can squeeze it into my busy schedule of watching the F15's take off and then watching the F15's land. Life is great!!!!!

Since I started this thread I believe I can now make my decision. I'm going with carefree and hope that the install in not that difficult.
