We put the Carrier unit on our 3400RL.
No shims, no leaks and works great.

5 degrees is about 1 1/8" rise in a 12" horizontal line. I checked the Monty's front cap one time and it is very close to 5 degrees. You should be able to install the unit without shims and be within the 5 degrees.

'06 3400 RL - no shims and it works better than the OEM in the living room! Of course, at a grand, it ought to!

Look at our signature picture and you can see it in the front.

Just curious where you find the 5* spec at? I looked at the Carrier units (a lot better price than Dometic), but all the specs I found showed the front of the unit could be above level up to 10*, but had no tolerance below level. I most likely would have gone with the Carrier except for that spec. I also think the Mountaineer has a little more front slope than some of the Montana's.

As far as cooling efficiently, I think any of the front non ducted units will out perform the ducted units from the factory, my theory being the heat in the attic and the quality of the duct leads to this. Of course, there is very limited space in the attic.

Thanks a bunch. Wish I had known that before I had that Penguin installed. Good luck.
