Shoulda had a V8.....

Kinda rephrase that with "Shoulda had a SuperGlide"

You get complacent with a manual slider and Sh&% will happen. Had a 5er pull in yesterday and while backing into his site he took out a rear window in his TV. He has a Reese slider and forgot to pull the slider lever and you know what happened next.
To make matters worse he has a Ford with the sliding rear window but only took out the right side glass. Now that ain't a cheap window to replace.
Come to find out that this was the second time he forgot. First time was while making a U turn.
Those "Senior Moment Things" are impossible to happen with the AUTOMATIC PullRite SuperGlide.

I wasn't about to take a picture at the tome but I will try to get a picture later before he has it fixed.

I am with Rich on this. I have enough things to think about when backing up.

The senior moment thing is exactly why I invested in a Superglide. :-)

This is the exact reason (1 of them) that I would not buy a Doge mega cab. Great engine but only comes in short box yuk. Not for me.

I've always owned a longbox. Paid for son's shortbx though.

Witnessed just outside of ABQ KOA - short bed chev -- trailer hit and deformed the cab and the back window then 'popped' out, shattering all over the place. Driver was trying to back up and had to cut a very tight corner.

We the SENIORS do have Senior Moments. I think I will keep my L_O_N_G Bed.

This thread was not to pit SB vs LB but rather Manual Slide vs Automatic Slide.
With an Automatic Sliding hitch such as the SuperGlide you can have all the senior monents in your SB you can but not to worry about your sliding hitch. With an SB and an Automatic Slider all you gotta be concerned with is outside objects and NOT "how could I have forgotten to slide that DA&$ hitch".
One other point with the SuperGlide, you never need a bed saver.

I love my long bed also, but if I had a short bed I would have an auto slider. Friend of mine took out the back window on his '03 F250 SB with his 29' Coachmen 5er.

I've got the manual slider. Bed saver, no. When I hitch up, I make sure the pin is locked in position, and have a padlock in the latch on the handle. I had one close call with the rear of the cab. No more. I'll stop in the middle of the busiest street and slide that baby back if need be. Now, don't get me wrong. If I were buying again, I would have the auto slider. If I buy a new TV, it will be a long bed. Just my thoughts.

That same friend I mentioned above also does not have a bed saver. Dropped his 5er on his rails and bent both side rails on his new '07 Chevy he had just bought 3-4 months earlier. Think he may just be an accident looking for a place to happen.

We have a Dodge/Mega Cab/short box as everyone can see, BUT what you can't see is that we have a Hijacker Autoslide hitch that we would not be without. The point IS if we WANT to drive short box trucks as MANY of us DO then a autoslide hitch is the only thing to guarantee we won't end up in a bad situation like Glenn has described!!!
