Interesting challenge
This is from the Ford FTE forum I belong to.It is Good forum although like here I get into some trouble over there. Although I have a V-10 and it is fine Motor I have a problem with saying it will out pull a Diesel..period... This fine gentleman has a ongoing challenge....I would like to see it.
....
I have pulled my signature rig with 22,830 pounds up and over the longest and steepest interstates in the USA... I can accelerate at will from any condition including climbing out into uphill traffic from the wrong side of the road at a scenic lookout on steep curvy sections...probabluy the single most important place you NEED torque and POWER!!!
and I will make my challenge here in this thread also...
I will gladly accept ANY test of speed, strength, stopping, turing, dead weight haul, what ever the hell you can dream up as a test between my STOCK 3v V10 and ANY stock Diesel truck in the same weight class (1 ton 350 series, 3500 series whatever) And now that I have seen a LOT of 6.4s here in central Texas, I am confident to say ANY Stock diesel against my stock 415 CI 3v V10 4x4 4.30 zero modification F350
This I would like to see???

Perhaps this gentleman has just traded in his 73 VW bus with the ole camper lid roof for his first full sized RV and compatable TV. He'll soon find raw brute low RPM torque is a diesels' playground ... afterwards, therapy will be his only answer. Bear in mind, I'm Ford Blue to the core and agree the V-10 is a good engine.

Rich,
I'm sure your V10 is a great engine and pulls well. However, diesel engines as a whole are 30% more efficient than a gas engine. There are no simi trucks pulling 80,000 pound rigs with a gas engine. Years ago I had a 454 V8 gasser and it got 6-7 MPG towing. I'll stick with my F250 4x4 diesel. Enjoy your set up and keep on truck'in.

Wonder if he's the guy I talked to in south TX? He was bragging about his V10's fuel mileage, then tells me his brother-in-law (or some kin of his) had one of those Fords with the "Duramax" in it. I could hardly hold my tongue. DW just looked at me and smiled. My son had a Ford 350 w/V10 bucket truck for about a year. He now has an older Ford 350 bucket with the 7.3 diesel. He says the power of the V10 is nowhere near that of the 7.3. Nothing against gassers here. When the cost of diesel shot up so high here, I was second guessing my wisdom in buying a diesel.

No this guy is a respected and long time member of the FTE forum and he is absolutely serious. This is not meant to be a Diesel/ Gas discussion on my part. I am getting some flack over there because I am saying My Fine V-10 will not do that..ever. I would like to see the match up. Till then I wil put my 6.4L order on hold..

I've had Chevy 454, Cummins 5.9, Cummins ISM, Ford Power Stroke 7.3, and the V10 . Test drove a Duramax today. Nothing compares to the raw power of a Diesel. The Cummins ISM (8.3) was in a 24,000 lb M/H. So I'm ordering a 08 Extended Cab LTZ SB because I can't locate a Grey one within 1200 miles of me (FLA). Anybody know of one?
The Duramax has the most power of any of the above...bar none. Just look at the torque of a diesel at mid range RPM compared to a gasser.
I've never been passed by a gasser on a hill unless I let them!!! Rich you have a great rig with that 4.30 stump puller rear end but you have got to stop sniffing those gas fumes. Just kidding.!!!!!
Remember the old saying, Horse power gets the speeding tickets but torque gets you up the hill.

Oh I forgot. Let's see the gas vs diesel challange take place at the top of Pikes Peak.. That gas will be choked at that altitude and the diesel turbo will still just be sucking that air in not as much affected by altitude!!!
That "whatever in hell you can dream up" will bite you at high altitudes with a gasser.

If all goes well we will be sniffing Diesel fumes even more than I do now.Like I said over on that forum. I hope this guy is correct as it would revolutionize the entire Rv industry in terms of towing and put the diesel folks out of business.. All I know is my V-10, as well as it serves me...will not do 70mph from a dead stop up a 7 & grade pulling my 3400.. I must have got a bad one... I just thought the post was interesting..Oh..no one has taken him up on the challange and it has been around for awhile..

I agree, this guy sounds like a troll. We had a 1999 F350 V10 when we started fulltiming. We towed a couple hundred pounds more than he's claiming up and over Vail Pass and all the way through Colorado on I-70, from west to east, with it. It did a good job but the diesel did it far more easily, although it also knew it was working.

I will have to say that the other forum is the Ford Truck enthusiasts form (FTE)and the post was on the V-10 Forum So some of these guys are of course very pro V-10, IMO a bit to much so. I get a kick out of reading some of the post. To say that a V-10 motor will out preform a Diesel flies in the face of established fact. I still hold to my experience that 80 maybe 85 % of the time there is not much difference in performance...but...the 15/20% difference is why we buy the diesel. My V-10 is a great motor and a pulling brute but I don't think I will be passing any of you on a long 7/9% grade and running 70MPH doing it.... I guess I am just to objective for some of these forums.

Did he say anything about pink slips? reminds me of the old days of street drag racing...used to blow those braggers away...too.
Think I'll still keep my Cummins diesel regardless of what he says.

The V10 ford is a good gasser. Yep a gasser will most of the time stay up with a DIESEL , oops! this gonna hurt LOL!! TILL YOU REACH A GRADE!! then a gasser struggles. I know , I have had a 460 gasser , also a 454 vortect , they both were really good engines, but wouldnt pass a gas station. I will stick with my 7.3, not for speed, but for torque, towing, and mileage. But Rich you do have a great truck i'm sure. thanks

I haven't hit the mountains with our new diesel yet, but the hills we have around here are very noticeable between towing with the gasser and the diesel. Once that turbo spins up it's all over...
And my mileage is a bunch better not towing, which is most of the time.
I just saw a guy that must've had a chip in his diesel...he pulled out to pass (going 45-50 and empty) and his truck went sideways when he hit it. He'll probably make it to the next tranny shop I'm guessing.
