Water Softeners and other ideas.....??

Just wondered if anyone uses a portable water softener on there incoming water line, if so does it really work line a stick built house unit does...? What brand do you have and how do you like it...? Looking to fulltime it at a Park closer to work and am looking for ideas to make the monty home feel more like living in the stick built house. Thanks for any other ideas and info on water softeners.

Have this

http://www.portablewatersoftener.com/

Love it, works well, specially if you are parked in a hard water area. Takes only table salt, easily available and small containers. Don't have to store large amounts of rock salt in the basement drawing moisture into that area.

Good luck.

We use the waterstick.

http://www.watersticks.com/rv.htm

If you are going to be sitting in one place and not moving around at all you might want to look for something a little larger that this or the one Carol has

8.1al so you use a waterstick... I have looked at them on-line and wondered if they really worked !? So my question is does it work as advertised and is it easy to regenerate ?
Thanks,
Kim

Kim,
We have only had only had ours a short time but so far we like it. If you go to the website you can find out how to regenerate. The only problem with the small portables, Carols our ours is they will only soften 100-500 gallons before needing regeneration depending on water hardness

I am not sure how many gallons we get on a recharge of ours. We do go one week between charges while we are in the RGV, which has VERY hard water. We do NOT have a washer/dryer, but, do have the 3 yorks and my hair is long (takes more water to rinse it clean, than when it is short).

Ours came with some gauge to tell you when you need to recharge. Cept, it did not work. I think (slippery memory from the soft water, sorry, that was pathetic, eh?? ) that it did not work cause there was never enough water pressure to make the little gauge move. Al pitched it. We just recharge once a week.

BTW, he uses a bit of Rustout in each charge. Well, I think that is what it is called. (Maybe that slippery memory comment was right on, eh???)
