Just got back from a trip to Rocky Point Mexico where the daytime temps were around 100 and the nights cooled down to the high 70's. We have a 15000 ducted rear and a 13500 bedroom A/C. We would open up the vents on the rear unit during the hottest time and kick the bedroom A/C on to assist. Most of the time the bedroom one was off though. Our last unit only had one 13500 ducted unit and while it worked fine, it took quite some time to cool off. The double A/C set up is great for quick cool downs and nap time. Only draw back to having the rear unit vents open was the noise. But then again it beats sweating.

For those of you who installed the front AC on your own, which "inside" did you use (or those who had it installed aftermarket)?
PPL seems to have good prices and a sale on right now, but most AC units have several inside panels to choose from.
Some have remote thermostats, cheapest has control on the panel.
Advice is appreciated.

Happy Fourth of July!

We went with the Airv Panel that has the thermostat on the unit, heat strip and the circular vents that can direct the air as you want it. Can't remember the price but I do remember that the heat strip option was an additional $79 that if I had to do again I would do without. The little bit of heat it generates is not worth it, it is easier and more effective to use a space heater in my opinion.
Bingo

It is our satellite antenna. When we had it installed we lived in Washington state. You don't use your a/c up there so no one considered the spacing needed for the 2nd a/c.

We have the 3400RL and put in a Duo-Therm HP 15,000(High Performance) in the bedroom. We choose the High Performance as we liked the looks and function of the inside ceiling control panel. My husband installed it himself. Camper was pre-wired from the factory. A couple of neighbors helped with hoisting it up to the roof. We choose the 15000 BTU's, thinking if one unit failed we would always have one Maximum as a back up. We have no shade where we keep our Monty at our lake and one unit just doesn't keep the inside temp below 80 on a 90+ degree day and that is with the Arctic package and we use sun windshield guards in the big back window to keep the heat off the glass. We had people over for the 4th of July for our First test run with 2 units and I was able to keep the camper at a cool 72 degrees with everyone going in and out with both units cycling on and off.. It past my test hands down... I am so glad we installed the second unit and wouldn't go with out the team anymore. Would highly recommend having 2 units... Of course you have to have 50 amp service to run them both. Bedroom unit is a bit noisy with fan on high, however don't need it on when we go to bed. Also go to Dometic"s web-site, they have pictures, and stats on all their products.

When installing a front a/c unit, what type of sealant does the roofing mfg. recommend to seal the new unit to the roof deck? Can anyone please advise.

I purchased a front Carrier AirV 13.5 unit without heat or remote at the following site...http://rvparts.net/. It works great. I have no interest in this company. It has 1)Ceiling Unit and 2)The Upper unit. $584 total. Not sure what they ask for today. Dennis

Mine is 12' 10". Several others here though run around 13" 4'.

Answer to question #1: Yes, but... w/d and micro may need to be watched I believe.

We had a Coleman Polar Cub 9200 BTU installed. I only draws 8.5 amp max. It cools the bedroom/bathroom very efficiently. It is only 11.5 inches high.

The Carrier AirV Low Profile 13.5 is 7 1/2 inches high. The Duo-Therm Penguin 13.5 is 9 1/2 inches high. They're both good products but we simply chose the Carrier AirV and it is a great AC. Dennis

The extra Duo-Therm height makes it handier for wasps to make a nest... (yesterday's experience).

As a tip, don't rock their world in the middle of the day - you have no where to run on top of a 3400... Wait until after dark to take your revenge...

Sorry, got off track a little.

We added a dometic low profile 13.4K unit about 6 months after we brought our unit. Had the dealer install. Total cost - just under $800. Our height is now 13'3".

Many of the campgrounds we frequent around here only offer 30 Amp service so we (actually DW Lisa) instructed the dealer to utilize the pre-wiring but disconnect the feeds from the back of the AC distribution panel and wire the ends to a heavy duty 20Amp extentsion cord. They originally routed the cord up into the curbside propane storage area but I rerouted behind the basement wall over to the street side Convienence Center. I coil the cord in the center for storage and run it out the access hole in the bottom when in the campground just like the water hose and cable. Every CG Power post we have been exposed to has in addition to the 30 or 50 amp receptable, one or more 15 amp receptacles so we never have a problem running both A/Cs.

While noisy, the bedroom a/c is white noise and sometimes makes it easier to sleep, like while camped next to the switching yards at the rally in Goshen.
