I don't know if this has been covered here but some little cities say no exhaust brake in the city. I guess it depends on how loud it is.

Steve,

Last fall I had the unfortunate occasion to be at a high altitude and snow covered roads. Without the Jake, I probably would not have been able to get off the mountain. I was able to get down by NOT using the brakes on the truck. Scary time, but that one-time paid for the installation of the Jacobs engine brake.

My Jake is so quiet, no one would probably recognize it as an engine brake.

I have no idea how loud this one is. I tried it out while test driving the truck but was not towing, was at about 55 mph on flat road and just went off throttle. There was a change in exhaust note but it was more of a soft purr. But under load it might be totally different. It's a turbo exhaust brake, with a plate that closes off the exhaust on the outgoing side of the turbo, if I understand it correctly.

Steve,

You are right, while towing the Jake makes no difference in the sound...just a quiet purrrrrrr...and slower speeds.
