BF GOODRICH TIRE RECALL

About a month ago I replaced our Marathons with an LT tire, a BFG Commercial TA 235 85 16 and I just got notified that these tires are being recalled. The recall went out July 25 12 and will begin around Aug 6 12 and involves 800000 tires. Well as big a pain as this may be, its better than blowing a tire on the highway on our way to the Goshen Rally next month. C'est la vie, eh !

I had mine put on in March so they are included. Only problem is Discount Tire has no BF Goodrichs in stock but says they will put on a set of comparable Michelins. I have already put 4000 miles on these BFG's and don't seem to have any problems. But what the heck we get some new tires.

I got lucky. Mine are from before the recall time by a slight bit.

As mentioned above, this topic has been discussed previously. Go to http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=50312 to see what Lonnie B (the resident tire guy) has to say (Hint: take the Michelin LTX offer).

That is what is so great about this forum. I had just put these tires on the Monte last year and would not have known about the recall if it wouldn't have been for you guys. Found out my tires are part of the recall and am now waiting to hear from my garage. Thanks to all of you!

Now if the call center would get someone to speak English I could understand. Only 4 tries now.

My new BFGs are included. Just talked to the dealer I bought them from. They have 4 new Michelin LTX MS2s waiting for me for Saturday. I have LTX MS on the truck. The 2 on the outside rears have 108,000 miles on them. They need to be replaced soon but I have been putting it off. My BFGs only had about 3,500 on them, purchased Jan 21 to replace the GY Marathons that came on the Monty.

I got mine replaced yesterday with Michelin LTX MS2. Mounted and balanced at no charge other than my time and fuel to the tire store. I think I put around 3500 miles on the BFGs in the 7 months I had them.

The good news is the failure rate is high enough to get new tires, but not high enough that everyone is at risk.
My Hometown long time in the business Owner/Mgr told me if my 2511 Tire had not failed yet, it probably wouldn't.
Still waiting on the out of town selling dealer to confirm he'll assist me when I pass through again this weekend on my recalled tire.

Just stopped to have our tires checked and are in recall. Dealer says we have to pay $61.00 x 5 about $300.00 difference. Calling Goodrich... will let you know how we make out!

Don't let them do that, Discount Tire said I had to pay for the Michelins until they got someone on the phone that knows about the recall. They will tell them that you can choose any of the Michelin LTX series.

I just had mine changed out to Michelin LTX's at no charge to me. It states right in the recall that there is no charge to the customer.

Bill,
All ten tires on the truck and trailer have been replaced with LTX's at no charge. My tire guy told me that they are getting $8.00 a tire to change them and a bit to send them back. It sounds as though your dealer is trying to soften the blow by trying to get more money from you. Call Michelin or better yet, give him the number and have him call them in front of you. That ought to straighten him out. He's trying to rip you off.

Called a different dealer this am. Apt. tomorrow no cost to us all tires replaced with the Mich. different dealer. Thanks to MOC or we would have thought we had to pay the difference.

It sounds like some dealers are trying to take advantage of the situation. I hope that from this point forward anyone who encounters this type of problem reports it to BFG. Go to www.bfgoodrichtires.com/voluntarysafetyrecall. The letter states, "The removed tires will be replaced with a similar product at no cost to you". It is NHTSA Recall Number 12T-019. It goes on to say that if you had your tires replaced before the recall because of failure, you may be reimbursed for that also. Good luck.

We lucked out. Our dealer went to bat for us, and we got the XPS ribs! I guess it helps that my dad started doing business with his dad in the 50's, and I bought three sets of tires from him last year. JT

You are correct, yes they will replace with the RIBS, which are supposed to be a better tire then the LTX with no extra charge, but there is no luck involved. They authorized the RIBS as a replacement, but some dealers are not in the know . Discount tire tried to pull the LTX replacement on a friend last week after I told him of the recall, he told them different. He now is getting the RIBs

I have read the recall several times but have not seen where they will replace with Michelin tires. Where does it say this? Also seems my local dealers are unaware of the recall. I bought mine from Sams but they told me I have to wait for a letter to notify me the replacement tires are in stock before they can replace them.
