Mattress

After a two week vacation, and sleeping on something that felt like sleeping on concrete we have a different mattress!
It hangs over the end of the bed about 2 inches but no problem with the slide in. The bed is now a little higher but not too much. I am sure this mattress will be better! But nothing is going to replace our water bed at home.

We found a cheaper fix was to use a memory foam topper over the existing mattress. It is quite comfortable and less expensive than replacing the entire mattress.

I agree with Dusty and Don, the stock mattress left a lot to be desired. Phyllis and I bought the memory foam topper and also bought a down filled pad. Like sleeping on air now. very comfortable. Just have to figure how to get my space back from the odg and cat.

Dustytuu, just had a huge thread on memory foam... if you do a "Search" for memory foam, you'll get tons of info!

My wife and purchased a air mattress from (www.bearbeds.com)about 3yrs.ago. Each side can be adjusted to the firmness desired.I enjoy a firmer mattress than my wife.Would recommend it very much.

The mattress that came with our Monty went with the bedroom set from the stick house to daughter #1. Our mattress fit perfectly in the Montana, and we sleep much better.

We didn't buy a new mattress, we took the mattress which was new off the guest room queen bed.
I wanted to do the memory foam, but Don didn't know if he would like it. So we switched the mattresses. We don't have much company in the guest room so this should work out OK.
Now according to "Murphy's Law" we will have lots of company in guest room. So we may end up buying another mattress for guest room anyway.

If the guest room bed is not real comfy your guests may not stay long which could be a blessing! We use the Monty as our guest room since it has its own set up here beside the house.
Happy trails....................

The memory foam topper worked great for us. My daughter bought one for her camper also and loves it.

I know it was spendy but I feel that putting my Sleep Comfort (Sleep Number ) bed was the best thing I could do. I let the dealer have the king matress since the last thing I need is to store somethig else.

We could probably do that too... use the Monty for a guest room in the sumnmer months, is sitting on our property with everything hooked up except in winter it is winterized so not a good guest room.

Dusty ... slide a piece of plywood under the former-guest-room-now-the-Montana mattress. It will provide support so the mattress won't sag and it will slide out of the way when the slides are brought in. We cut diagonally across the corners to keep it neat.

I am also looking for something better in a bed. You say you had a king size and replaced it with Sleep Comfort. Is it also a king size? Could you tell me the model or part number so I can get one also.
Thanks

Palakiko,

Just installed a Select Comfort (Sleep Number) Queen mattress. A bunch of work, but worth it. Got it from Camping World which had the best price after shopping all day for one. It comes in 60" x 75" or 80" and is dual control. Good sleeping and is nice since each of us likes a different firmness.

Liking the Select Comfort air bed more and more. A little more info---Some of the upgrades in the mattress are only due to the padding inside the cover. They charge a lot for their pads. The difference was several hundred dollars for what was a $90 pad from Costco which easily fit inside the mattress cover.

Where do you keep the air pump motor? And when you pull in the bedroom slide does the cord get caught or have to be unpluged?

We took the Queen size Select Comfront Air Matress from our stick home and put it in the Montana, had to replace the board that lifts up with one that is 4" longer (still misses the dresser when slide is in). Do have to adjust the air matress when changing altitude!!!!! Put the pump under the board at forward end (head)and drilled a hole for the (2)air tubes, we do have to unplug the electrical plug when bringing in the slide (or the slide will do it for you with bent prongs).
