battery water

My monthly maintenance checklist has on it to check the coach batteries (2006 3295RK). A miracle occurred and I checked the battery water on the first day of the month.

Lo, and the water was a little low. This is the first time in 2 years of full timing I really needed to add some water, both batteries, in about 3 of the 6 cells. Just a sixteenth of an inch below the full.

Will I need a new converter?

I had a pop up battery that used water, and it got worse and worse, months passed, and finally the battery was fried by the converter. It went out in under 2 years and was replaced by manufacturer under warrenty. I then had the "opportunity" to buy the replacement battery without assistance.


Your advice and experience will be appreciated.

The converter is most likely fine. I think you are probably seeing age on the batteries.

The amount of water your battery requires will depend how much you use the 12V system on your rig and the battery has to recharge. The inverter is fine and this is a natural occuring condition.

This is encouraging to hear. My furnace has begun running at night, so there is an increase in DC power system use for the furnace fan.

Even with regular maintenance, deep cycle batteries only seem to last 2-3 years. This is for the 12 volt ones; the 6 volt might be different.

That's why I opted for the Lifeline D8 AGM Batteries. Their life span is much longer than the notmal deep-cycle wet-cell batteries. Ours have been installed for over four years now and still going strong. They're used 24/7/365.

We use the AGM 6-volt NO maintenance batteries. They are expensive, but so far they have performed flawlessly.
