Upgrade from 2955RL to High Country???
I currently own a '06 Montana 2955RL with a Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel pulling with ease. We want to make the final pre-retirement push and purchase a 4 slide that my 2500 can still pull. It appears Manu's are making lighter units and the High Country (or other suggestions) might fall into this option. Any thoghts out there for bigger/yet lighter untis for my upgrade??????

As far as available options, this would not be an upgrade to move from a regular Montana to a Mountaineer or High Country...

I didn't say I wanted to move from Montana. Just thought a multiple slide High Country might be an upgrade from my 2955RL-LOVE my Montana!! Just want more slides and a slightly bigger unit for my Retirement Tour

I am just meaning that the Mountaineer and High Country don't offer all the options the regular Montana offers

Kind of what I thought, though the High Country is still a nice unit. Guess what you really need to do is the old tried and true: get the actual weight for any unit you might be interested in buying...from there you will be in a much better position to decide if your current tow vehicle can manage the unit you want. Good luck in your seach.

Jaybird's reference to "upgrade" is in terms of going to a much larger unit not a higher class one. My advice would be to visit a well stocked dealer and look around. You can examine the weights on the spot. See what you feel comfortable with your truck handling. Choose from within that group what you like best. In any case you will enjoy the extra room.

Manufacturers usually have to make cuts to get lighter weights, often in construction materials. Best to do your comparisons carefully to ensure full understanding of any tradeoffs. Good luck on your search, hope you find the perfect unit for yourselves.

dear jaybird
we currently have a 2011 montana 323rl high country it is our first montana moving up from a 30 ft laredo bunkhouse. we love our montana high country, the lighter version does not mean skimmpier, the montana is made witha a different process allowing more strength with less weight the new helium technology. we pull our 36ft montana with a f250 super duty 7.3 diesel with a superchip and pulls nicely, we love the layout and design. weight from manufacture rvia sticker is 12240 lbs.max trailer capacity, mine fully loaded with full water and ready to roll weighed in at 10,470 we took it from oklahoma to colorado last june and went over to silverthorne thru the eisenhower tunnel with 6% grades and it did just fine. they have a 343rl you might also find interesting good luck

Ditto, here. We moved from the Sydney to the 2012 343RL HC, I have been in alot of 5ver some better then the Montana line, some worse, but for the money, we felt the High Country was a great floor plan and value. We only have 15 nights in it and have pulled it about 3000 miles, no issues with fit and finish (fireplace remote didn't work, entire fireplace and remote was replaced quickly by Keystone), no complaints. As the DW says "it's a keeper"

Pulling is not the issue, any diesel truck will "pull" any 5th wheel. The weak link with 250/2500 trucks is the ability to carry the pin weight. That's what you need to check.

Can you expond your comment TLightning. I'm not a Truck guy. I bought a Dodge 2006 Multi-cab/short bed 2500 to pull my 2006 Montana 2955RL and I'm wanting to upgrade to three slides. Stupid question but I must ask---Why would my Ram 2500 weigh any different than everyone else that tows with this truck. I keep seeing that question on other Forums. "What is your turck weight"--Just trying to learn tru Forums!!! Thanks Jay

The pin weight of the trailer is often a lot more than the brochure states. I have an F350 dually, and even with that I still am close on the weight for the bed once you hook up the fifth wheel. My truck will pull 21,500 pounds as per Ford, but the weakest link that limits safe towing as Tom was saying is the pin weight in the bed, not the gross trailer weight.
