Mar-A-Bombs Gone!

I just changed out the tires on our rig to the Goodyear G614's today. The relief of not having to worry about the Mar-A-Bombs exploding is nice! I managed to pick-up 5 of them for $1750.00 mounted.

Just want to express a big Thank You to everyone who has shared their experiences and suggestions on helping others prevent a hardship and damage to thier rigs.

By the way......Anyone looking for tires for thier utility trailers? I have 5 Marathon's with only 400 miles on them for sale and will give you a real smok'in deal on them!!

When I gave away my Mara-bombs I made the guy sign a hold-harmless statement. Congratulations...I am sure you travels will be less stressful going forward!

Scott, did you have the change over done at a Tire dealer or an RV dealer? The G614s are supposedly larger than the Marathons. Did they fit ok?

RJI47, I got the tires at a tire Dealer. He told me the tires are just a little bit wider and they seem to fit just fine. After all, they are an option from Montana so they should fit just fine.

The main thing is just make sure your rims have the proper pressure ratings on them. Mine are rated for 115 psi so they are good to go.

Congratulations, we love our 614's. Smoking deal on Marathon's, is that a pun, or not.

I guess every brand and or model of tire has its detractors. Interestingly there is a thread on the Escapees Forum that is thrashing the GY614s just like the GY Marathons are being trashed here. Makes a guy wonder what truly is the best thing to do regarding the best and or safest tire to put on one's rig.

I've had tires blow-out and or go "bad" with three or four different brands of tire (none of them were the Marathons). I know the Marathons have a terrible reputation -- Especially here on the MOC. But I also know there are tons of them out there. My new rig has them and I am watching them closely. Sure hope they hold up! Just in case I have to change them out I'm starting a "tire fund" account. Dennis

Like any tire the G614 has its limits. The Escapee guys probably need H range tires. Overload a tire too much and BOOM!!! Judging by posts from members here the G614s seem to be overkill for Montanas as the E rated LTs are holding up nicely on rigs that run them.

New G614's installed today. Peace of mind means a lot. I am not sure that Marathons are bad tires, just not good for the weight of the Montana. Had the Tire Dealer check the Marathons and he said they were in great shape so sold them on Craigslist to a used tire dealer.

4 Marathons available for pick up in Olive Branch, MS. Less than 1000 miles. They are free. Need to get them out of my garage. Send me an email at alcolemanau07@gmail.com if interested.

Al,
If I were you I'd rethink foisting these "Mar-A-Bombs" on someone. They obviously are defective and dangerous ----- As proven here on this Forum time and time again. You may face a substantial lawsuit. I'll drop by tomorrow to pick them up! Just kidding. Dennis
