Has anyone used a portable unit? Have the need to be able to switch vehicle's. Have concerns about the portable antenna. Have always had fixed units and wondering will I be losing to much by going portable.
not looking so much for long range, mostly for traffic jams. Cell phones have taken away allot of the needs of a C B.

I used to run an old portable CB when I first got my drivers license almost 14 years ago. It worked good, but found that the magnetic antenna really tended to scratch the paint on the roof of my Jeep Cherokee. I am sure the newer antennas have better felt that is used between the antenna base and the paint. As long as you double check the antenna base for a good piece of material used, I think you should be fine.

What is the best way to run your coax in an F-250 Super on a permanent mount antenna?

Usually If I install for gents there are 1 of 2 places. First is the door boot. Come down the fender to the door, route it into the rubber door boot (route it sans connector and Poke a small hole in the bottom and the rubber will seal around the coax). There usually a panel access right under the dash on the door edge. then under the carpet to under the seat and out. If your worried about soldering in the vehicle I use Gold Plated Shakespeare (http://www.shakespeare-marine.com/co...pick=centerpin) (get em at marine stores) No Crimp/No Solder coax connectors. As long as you use RG8X or RG58 these work great.

Else there are usually rubber plugs in the firewall you can poke through and the rubber seals around the coax. Just make sure you check both sides before you poke .

I run power cable Through the firewall too. I use Anderson Power Pole power panel (http://www.saratogaham.com/powerpanel/powerpanel4.html) to do all my connections so I have my CB, HF and 2m radios all on the power strip. Leaves the power plug for the laptop

I run a Galaxy 95T in my big truck with two wilson 2000's antena's it has been the best CB I have had to date and Ihave had many different ones along the way The best advise I can give is your radio is only as good as your antena so buy a good one and have it matched to your radio and your cb will give you the best result all name brands are good just some offer different options good luck finding the right one for you

Wandering Star,
I use a portable with Magnetic antenna with good results. However, as Mantan sky says, you are subject to scratches and I don't like the wire draped around in the cab. Been thinking about installing a small headache bar and permenant antenna. Just got to find time to get er done.
