Brake Magnets

Before we put the Montana to bed for the winter, we had an O/L warning on our Prodigy. When I called them, they said it is most likely the magnets, after they heat up. How hard is it to check and change out the magnets? I know that I need to go out on the road and heat it up and then check the lower two pins for continuity per Prodigy. That is how you can tell if there is a short/magnet issue. All is fine when I'm stopped. Any help would be appreciated.

Ron this will be coved under your warranty, you could let your dealer do it? I have changed out one of the two bad magnets that have gone bad in your 05 Monty. It is an easy job if your a do-it-yourselfer. Do a search on magnets, if you need more help check back. See-ya

hi, look on top of the axles, it will probably say "Dexter" and a model number. call dexter axles to find out who there local rep is, easier than working with a RV dealer in my experience, Dexter is real good on warranty work.

Thanks for the suggestions. They are Dexter axles, and I have already been under to see if there was anything visible. According to Prodigy, since the voltage reads right when I have the unit stopped, they believe it is the magnets. It's only once I get under way that it is overlimit. I have a good dealer, and they are only too happy to fix it. The problem is the 200 miles between my dealer and the Montana, plus the fact that the campground is locked until April 1. I'm checking now so I will be prepared come April.

While we are on this subject, FYI! I left my old 5er at my sister in-laws beach cabin a few summers back. It was a full hook-up. Her daughter came down from Alaska to stay for a month. The cabin has one bedroom. Somewhere along the line one of her kids pulled the break-away pin out. It MELTED 3 of the magnets and severly warped the 4th. Cost me almost $200.00 bucks. No "GOOD DEED" goes un-punished.
