Burped the fridge

Any of you guys ever burped the fridge? This is the second season I've had to take out the fridge and flip it over for a day or two . Afterwards it works great. I guess it is cheaper and easier than replacing the chiller. I must assume there is some debris floating around in there. What do you think?

That's a new one on me. We full time and have a four door so it's not something we would be doing anyway. Check with Ozz, he should be able to tell you what's going on.

Back in the 70's, burping the refer was the practice when you had cooling problems. But then again, the refer was small enough (3 - 3.5 cuft) to remove it and flip it for a day or so. I didn't know this was still being done. I suspect something has corroded inside the lines and is moving about. In any event, back then it was a temporary cure.

Yes, like nosticks stated back in the old days it was common to burp the frig. I have not heard of it in recent times. Joe

I don't think these newer and/or larger models require burping. There's nothing said of that requirement in my owner's manual, therefore it should not be required.

I would get this checked out and repaired. Like you said, there might be some debris in there (probably from the manufacturing process) and might require draining and refilling. I would leave this to an expert - or they can just swap out the unit.

Been burping these types of refrigerators since the 50's. Servel made some rather large refrigerators back then and they were butane fired and ended up on farms and ranches in the area because there was no electricity. When you had to burp one of these you called in all the hands and the neighbors. Heeeaaavveey. So after my ramblin, yes heard of it and have done it, however, have never had to try it on the rig ref. I read once in one of the service manuals from Dometic, I believe, that burping was unnecessary, and would not accomplish anything. Believe you proved that to not be exactly correct.

I had debris clogging my new Norcold when I first bought it but instead of "burping" it I shut it off for a few hours and tapped all over the coils and tank with a screwdriver and that broke the debris free,no more problems since

No experience with absorption systems, but I would hesitate to Burp it, sometimes you can cause extra unwanted problems.
I like ole dude's post. A wise man dat...

His sig is a '07 so that would make the frig 6 years old. Usually this is caused by operating in a out of level condition side to side.

Take it out, lay it on the side, burner side down, overnite, then on it's top for a few hours and then back upright for at least 6 hours before turning it on. Yea, it is not in the book, but it works. While you have it out, a few taps on the cooling unit with the handle of a screwdriver will help break up the crystals.

Usually this is caused by crystals forming inside the cooling unit. If this does not fix it, then probably time for a cooling unit. Best place I have found is: http://www.rvcoolingunit.net/servlet/StoreFront

I have used them before and if you are 1/2 way handy you can change your cooling unit in about 2-3 hours.
