Storage

My Montana is in its heated garage for the winter. We are headed south for 5 months. I have the unit plugged in to 50 amp service. Should I leave the battery switch on or off. Thanks.

Since your rig is a newer one (based on previous posts), it is equipped with a multi-stage charger (you can verify this). The multi-stage charger will adjust the charge accordingly therefore there is no harm in leaving the batteries turned on. I do the same thing with our boat, the boat is plugged up all winter long with the battery bank being serviced by a multi-stage charger.

How can you tell if you have a multi-stage charger?

The easiest way is to check your documentation that came with the rig. Your 2011 will have a multi-stage charger. Our previous 2007 rig had a different charger and if I recall correctly, at least that year there was an add-on required to adapt the OEM Iota charger to a multi-stage one. In 2008 the chargers were changed to Xantrex multi-stage chargers and I think that is what is still being provided but in 2012 they did change them to 90 amp models versus the previous 80 amp models.

Just curious why you are leaving it plugged in? Battery/batteries should still have a charge when you get back.

Only if the battery is completely unplugged, Mike. There are drains (remote board, and several others) that will drain a battery unless it is unplugged completely from the system. I do agree that the preferable way is to simply unhook the battery from the rig completely. I have an isolation switch installed in addition to the convenience center switch that allows me to do just that when the rig is in storage.

I leave ours plugged in all year. The only thing I would caution someone about would be leaving the refrigerator on, but if it's in storage, why would anyone do that?

I would remove battery take in and purchase a Battery Tender

Why run the Converter/Charger I would think it would shorten it's life
