Ozz,
Just to satisfy my curiosity, is there any chance that the fender skirts are coming in contact with the outer edge of the tires, particularly during the course of up and down bouncing of the rig. The clearance on our rig was so close that the dealer who installed the 614's specifically made a point to make me aware of it and to keep an eye on it. I seem to remember some posts in the past where the skirts actually had to be trimmed back to prevent rubbing. The reason I ask, is it does not appear that the area that is showing the wear even has contact with the ground?
Bingo
On edit: I guess I should have looked at the other pictures since I am now aware that this wear is on the inside and outside of the tires. It still may merit some under the fender skirt investigation though??

I will look at the skirts, at this point, I am open to any suggestion. I just got off the phone with Goodyear, they got more information from me and I am waiting a phone call back.

wow, that one inner tire has a bad scuff mark. OZZ, do you think that the axle could be shifting fore and aft putting undo pressure on the edges? It would not need much movement at highway speeds to scuff a tire.

I don't know, but all 4 tires have the wear, before I left, I checked the torque on all U-bolts and greased the shackles, all was iight then.

The more I look at the pictures, it just seems to me that there is something rubbing against the tires? It looks like there is a pronounced ridge line on the outer tread band where the rubbing is occurring. If these outer edges of the tires are not contacting the pavement at rest, there has to be something going on up under the fender wells since it would seem they would not contact the pavement when under way. As always, trying to be of help, no expertise, no experience, just pure conjecture! Keep us informed wizardly one!!

No, I did check that, and our resident tire expert Lonnie, looked at the tires and fenders as well.

The wheel skirts are plastic and could not wear the tire. There isn't anything that could rub the tire and it would have to be on both sides of the tire and all four of them at the same time.
Ozz, your pictures are the exact same wear as mine.

Me too but it's been that way for two years and doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Jim,
I thought Lonnie said, they needed more air? Sure looks like under inflated tire wear pattern... Is it getting worse since Lonnie looked at them?
Or maybe Sue has been collecting rocks along the way and hiding like the movie.

John, Ha! Sue will be collecting them, but not so far.
Lonnie said it wouldn't hurt anything, but they were at 106. I had inflated them to 100 cold, and that is what the tire chart read with the weight per tire. I went ahead and did the 110#
Under-inflation wasn't the problem.
It is pretty much the same.
I had the tire company guy come out to check them. He said he has seen many Goodyear tires like this on dual axels wear this way.
I am waiting for the return call from the local tire company, just called them, they are on the phone with Goodyear as I type this.

Ozz,
That looks like the kind of wear that would result from many tight turns torquing the tires. You haven't been traveling on "Tail of The Dragon" in N. Carolina have you?

I have seen it a couple of times, but I have NO definite answer for the cause. It will be interesting to hear what Goodyear says.

More air pressure was the only thing I could come up with, and I am doubtful if that is the problem.

You couldn't have done a better job with the tires on the balancer and cutting them with a cutting tool. Very strange indeed. We put just short of 20K on our G614s before we tradeing the Monty and the tires still looked almost new. Have 7K on the ones on the SOB and just checked them yesterday because of your post. All is well and good with them, sure hope you solve this issue.

Well... I raised some hell. The cubical lady said she would pro-rate the tires, it would cost me $155.00 per tire. I said NO, if they were not defective, I could run them another 3 years. She made a counter offer at $76.10 per tire.
I went on to explain how much trouble I can cause, I know how to cause trouble if nothing else. I explained to her that because she would not solve this problem, (I asked for the supervisor over her, she explained they went home, it would be Monday) I would have to spend 3 nights in an RV park, it would cost me more money I shouldn't have to spend. I told her it just wasn't my fault, Goodyear tires, not something I did wrong.
The tires will be free. I have to pay mounting and balancing, that's OK, that $$ goes to Tire Pro
Brent at Cottonwood Tire Pro asked me how that I got them to do that, he said he has talked to Goodyear 3 times this week, and free never happens.
We don't know what the problem is, may never know based on the response from Goodyear. Wish I would have gone with another tire.
OR, found out why this happened.
The mobile tire service guy said he sees this all the time on Goodyear tires on double axles. The rubber in the tires grinds away on turns. (His words, not mine..)
So, my new tires will be here Monday at 11:00, going to an RV park, out of water...
Good luck on your tires folks, I don't know why some people have this wear and some don't

Ozz, I agree with you - free is good but it would be nice to know why they wore like that. Looking at your pictures, the only thing I can think of the center plies are not giving the tire enough support or the sidewalls are weak and letting the tires roll on curves.

Thank you for the update, Ozz. I hope others with the same problem are able to get it resolved. It sounds like the only way to resolution with Goodyear is going to involve a very adamant discussion. Glad one of my fellow Tire Pros dealers was able to help you.
